Re: Putting high gains in a 4004

Has anybody else tried Higains in a 4004? I have a 4003/4004 hybrid project that may start, and just wondering how much of the 4003 higain sound is due to the massive great hole in the body, and all that heavy duty mounting hardware! I've done a couple of bridge position higain mods, whereby I shove...

lEMMY'S ORIGINAL 4001S

Anybody know what became of the 4001s that belonged to Lemmy, as seen in the Ric Video, (at approx 2'53"). Or indeed - any more of it's history?

Re: Lemmy Pickups

Al, Talk to Dane Wilder here on this forum. He is the resident Rickenbacker electronics guru. He's crafted a Lemmy tribute bass that's way cool!! Also, check out Classic Amplification. I ordered pups from him for the "S" bass I ordered. 60's values all around. Personally, I would not both...

Re: Lemmy Pickups

Why bother with the SD "signature" pickups? Insofar as I know, Lemmy himself doesn't use them - he uses HB1 pickups, so fit those instead, if you want to replicate his sound (and they're cheaper!) I have HB1s in the bridge position (with push/pull coil tap on the tone control) on both my 4...

Re: 4003 Hipshot bridge .

I had an aluminium Hipshot. It rattled like hell, and then eventually, the steel screws corroded in situ. nothing like sweat, steel and aluminium to set up corrosion! One saddle was totally beyond redemption, but Jason at Hipshot sent me a replacement, no questions asked. Excellent after market serv...

Re: 4 -> 5 bridge conversion on a 4004L

Dane - that is just a fabulous looking bass! Jeff did email me, with a bridge he uses, I've asked him what brand it is, but looks like it fits the HB1 in the bridge position! He pointed me towards an ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Strings-Adjustable-Square-Saddle-Bass-Bridge-Top-Load-Black-5-M...

Re: 4 -> 5 bridge conversion on a 4004L

Still hoping anybody can advise on a good bridge for the 5-string conversion. The Schaller's seem to be just a tad too wide!

Re: Question, vintage vs current mute screws

Back in the old days, strap buttons and mute screws were the same thing. I think possibly you're thinking of fact that the newer strap-lock type strap buttons are metric (M5) threaded, but I can't think of any reason why Ric would change the treading of the older strap button/mute screw fitting, as ...

Re: Best Amp for a Rickenbacker 4003

Actually - for good, all-round bass amplification, Ashdown is remarkable value for money. The company evolved from the good guys who left Trace Elliot. They have various ranges, but I'm a particular fan of the bog standard no-frills MAG range (which alas has just become obsolete) but I also have a M...
