Having now seen the fierce looking animal you have posted Lyle, I am inclined to think again for a band name, for years I thought the Kinkajou was a night bird. It's interesting that Peter has posted the Kinkajou Club,I was there on that opening night of the club, as described by Bob Percival, this cl...

Yes very 60s Lyle ,think my choice would be
"THE KINKAJOOS".
It would be interesting to read other peoples group names.
Also another subject that interest's me is what music people listen to when they are posting on the forum at the moment I am listening to Little Walter(Dog)1965.

Yes Peter, A man's pride was at stake,It became obvious that Pete Best could not remain in the confines of the NEMS organisation. Joe Flannery who describes his job at NEMS as the booking agent working in tandem with Brian Epstien. Joe suggested that Pete Best join the Lee Curtis All Stars,Pete agre...

Hi Lyle, If you had managed to be around the Iron Door in early 1961,perhaps you could have named yourselves THE BIG THREE.Just pipping them to the name.
Have you any preference as to what you would have called your band for your first audition at the Iron Door in the 60s.

Peter,I do know of such a person, his name is Peter Flannery you will know him as Lee Curtis. In the 60s Peter was managed by his brother Joe,who also managed the only other girl singer of merit, on the 60s beat scene besides Cilla Black,it was Beryl Marsden. Peter Flannery in my opinion, had all the...

Hi Gary, I have read the Rickresource Forum,I am absolutely amazed at the information and knowledge that transpires on the postings. As far as musical instruments are concerned, to use your expression Gary, I am a "lurker". But I think I know a man who does,I will ask him and get back to y...

Yes Gary, the Beatles did have a huge female following, especially Pete Best. So popular was he that at one stage of their career people used to refer to the Beatles as Pete Best and the Beatles. I also think you are right in thinking that they were different and they did have a different sound. Ther...

Lyle ,I agree it was touch and go for them, without Brian Epstein I doubt if the Beatles and all the other groups in his stable would have made it.He was in a better position than most to succeed. The Beatles overwhelming ability to compose music and write were there strength above all the other grou...

Lyle,All the bands were different, this choice may surprise you and remember I had band sounds practically running out of my ears two bands come to mind Kingsize Taylor & The Dominoes and the Escorts. Of course The Big Three & The Searchers are right up there at the top as well. During my tim...

Lyle, how are you nice that you have joined the discussion,I have of course heard of Hunter Davies I never met the man, or read anything that he has written,as far as I am aware he didn't venture into the Iron Door,so it deosen't surprise me he didn't give it a mention. The only group that emulated t...

Gary,I would't worry about not knowing about the Iron Door, there are a lot of people in this country including Liverpool not heard of the club either. It's through Peter's research into the Searcher's and other Liverpool groups,he realized there was another club in Liverpool that perhaps made a some...

Ten years on the circuit with a top 40/rock band must have left you with a whole lot of memories. I really enjoyed your article Gary,I sympathise with you,and understand that you being a bass player,a good drummer makes all the difference. All the more so in the three piece band. It wasn't until I s...

For Steve Grentus

Hi Steve,I have to apologise for giving out misleading information.
I have re-checked my notes and find that Ringo Starr did not play at the Iron Door (Storryville)as the Beatles drummer at the "Beatles Farewell Party"
Please accept my sincere apologies Steve.

Gary, having read your posting again I was wondering if I had perhaps missed something when you hyphenated the "right"in you question to me. I think we are all aware that Ringo was left handed, but for some reason set up his drum kit for a drummer who leads with his right. I heard it said t...

Hi Gary,This for me is the first posting on the Iron Door forum for 2007,and possibly for your good-self. I agree with you entirely when you say there is a magical transformation in a band with the "right" drummer. I have noticed this in jazz bands when they bring in a new man to the line ...
