Re: OMG! my bridge pickup is dead!!
What you're describing is not a short, it's an open circuit---apparently, the pickup wire broke somewhere. If it's the wire inside the pickup, you're probably SOL, but if it's the connecting wiring or solder joints it might be salvageable. It is very unusual for a RIC pickup to fail like that but it...

Re: Opinion: Greatest Rock Movie?
It may not be the greatest, but one that should not be forgotten is Roadie, a Meat Loaf vehicle from the early 80s (I think) that featured appearances and cameos by a whole bunch of real-world musicians.

Re: Happy Festivus !
You may all be pleased to know that there is a Festivus pole set up in the Illinois State Capitol! Every year there's a brouhaha between the Christians who want a manger scene and the atheists who want...well, this year they put up a sign saying there was no God, or something like that. A kid in tow...

Re: Rics that define your sound for TP?
I find that for the majority of the 6-string Ric work, I can turn to my 1997. For the 12-string work, I look no further than my 660/12TP... ...as opposed to any of your other Ricks? :P The list of what was used when is interesting, but can't be complete, since I've seen video of TP using a black Fl...

Re: can you PLEK a Rickenbacker? Have you done it>? results?
One thing PLEKing has going for it is that it's become a badge of exclusivity---assuming for the sake of argument that a PLEKed guitar does have some advantage over one that's had a good fret level/crown/polish job done by a skilled tech or luthier, perusing a few days' posts on, say, The Gear Page ...

Re: Favorite contemporary standard finish?
I weasled and voted for "all of them equally". I think different finishes suit different instruments. For the most part, I think the darker finishes (JG and MID) look better on bound instruments (4003, 620, 660) and the lighter colors look better on unbound instruments (330), but there are...

Re: Basics of Maintaining 360-12
I have a few questions or requests for guidance on my New 360-12. * * * 4. What good does a "Rick-o-sound box" do, if I could get one? If I just use a stereo amp, or split the signal, will there really be any difference? * * * Thanks, Tom The Rick-O-Sound circuit sends each pickup to a se...

Re: Ricky 6-string... 660 or 620?
You may also want to look at the 650 guitars. If you want the string spacing of the 660 but not toasters, you could get a 650 and a pair of Hi-Gains for well under the cost of a 660. Actually, Rick humbuckers are not as thick tonally as PAFs or something---if you try them you might decide they work...

Re: Yamaha SC300T classic surf guitar?
I remember those! I always thought they'd be a pretty cool Strat variant. They are not that common; congrats on finding a nice, unmolested one.
Do you have a more traditional Strat too, and if so, how does this compare?
IIRC, Kenny Loggins played a white one of these at Live Aid.

What is that black Rick with the gold pickguard that Mike Campbell is playing on "Running Down a Dream" towards the end of the movie of the same name?

Re: Underrated and Overrated
To reduce a number of previous posts to the lowest common denominator: Korean guitars in general are underrated. I've had a number of them from several different factories with various brands on the headstock (Epiphones from three different plants; Schecter; B.C. Rich; Agile), and they were all damn...

Re: Stolen Rickenbacker 330
...but a late-model Fireglo 330 is as close to common as Ricks get, so, any distinguishing features you can identify---any nicks or dings, or pattern in the wood grain---will really help people to figure out whether a 330 might be YOUR guitar. Pics would be really helpful.

Re: Transonic Sound Clips?
The ultimate Transonic sound clip may be Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker", which if the legend is true was recorded (the main part anyway, not the solo in the middle) using a Transonic.

Re: Guitar Stands--Again
I've found two models of stands that I'm pretty happy with: First, this Hercules model: http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/regular/9/0/0/392900.jpg It has a little bumper that the hanging guitar leans against, as opposed to padding on the legs; this is not such a big deal with Ricks...
