Happy New Year! Perhaps things will finally begin to settle down... goodness knows we need a break.

Re: test
Hmm- looks like the entire official Rickenbacker site seems to be MIA.... "This site cannot be reached" is all you get, whether Forum page or main.
Something's amiss.

Re: 12 String Tuners
Another question- when you reverse the octave tuners, do the knobs touch the case when it's closed???
I'd be worried a little about the chance of some damage while IN the case.

Another nod to the black sharpie- wedge point.
Haven't needed to use it on my Ric, but it's worked a treat on other worn, raised black letters where and when needed.

Re: Finding Rics to test drive?
It took me all of about 8 hours over a week or so to make the adjustment (my other mainstay is a 2 pup Gretsch with much more room). Now it's purely automatic.

Re: What's the Fascination with Old Instruments?
It's beginning to dawn on me that most of my guitars could be considered "old".. Even my 370/12 is 10 next year, while my Gretsch was built in 1970, the Fender acoustic dates from 1982, and the venerable Takamine 12 came to me in '86. Hmm... maybe it's me. Maybe I am the one who's turning ...

Re: Does this 360 seem legit?
FWIW, my MG370/12 was ordered as a retirement present in late 2009, finally arrived from the factory in April of 2011, and came with 2010 serial number.
Sometimes, you just can't figure these things out.

Re: The Rickenbacker Moment That Brought You Onboard
A band that played at the spring dance when I was in Grade 10 featured the first Rickenbacker I'd seen or heard. That would have been in March or April of 1969. The sound of an electric 12 was magic to my young ears, probably because it was a natural extension to the guitar I had recently upgraded t...

Re: Fishtail 360F?
Can you truly call that a Ric?
Intriguing, but more of a Frankenbacker, isn't it? That said, I'd love to see a few clearer images of it.

Re: Gibson Pump Polish safe on Rickenbacker 360?
I use just the Ric cloth most of the time, but if it's hothouse warm out (like today) and I've managed to get a little sweat from my arm on the bout, a very small amount to Turtlewax liquid and a little buff restores the top and gets rid of those little bits of whatever that collect on it on hot nig...

I only have one Ric, my 2010 270/12. Had it out the other night for a jam - so far, so good. Tailpiece intact.
I use D'Addario 11's and leave it in A/440, fwiw.

Mine's from 2010 and I used my wife's fingers to look for any flaws because my hands are getting too calloused. She reports "Nothing".

Re: Schaller strap locks won't fit
Not exactly the best- but I once took an Xacto knife and cut out a very small portion of the foam padding in a guitar case so that my newly-electrified acoustic 12 would fit. The liner was then re-glued in. The end result was a tiny bit less protection but the guitar fit. Never done it to a Ric case...

Re: 420/6 "Cresting Wave"
Apropos of coming up with your own design... from personal experience I can say "it don't come easy". The (very) few times I have taken to pen and paper or CAD tools on my computer to design my own guitar, it's always wound up looking "just like" something that's already out ther...
