I WISH I still had the '69 Major I used for years for both Guitar and Bass.. but it got too heavy, and I went to a '73 Bassman 100.. At that time I was all PBass, I was still on my quest for a perfect 4001. The Bassman is gone as well..
Now I play through a mid 90's Trace Elliot GP12-SMX 1-15 combo ...

Re: Help me find my 4001?
Awesome story and happy ending! I hate to say it, but I traded my first 1973 Jetglow 4001 to Mentor Music in Ohio back in 1980 for a.. PLEASE don't kill me.. a Gibson Grabber. I was still in HS, and didn't know any better!

Re: Is my 4001 done?
Thanks for the feedback, I was freaking out because I love my Ricky, and it's been my main Bass since I got it last year. I do know a very competent Luthier, he's slow, and expensive, but good. Thanks for the pic of your 4001 CJ, it gave me hope, and yes, I have Roto's on mine as well

I've pulled the tension off the strings, and would like to know what those in the know think I should do. It can be felt when you run across it. Thanks! Robin

Re: I'm back home!
I have the impression that Rics of that era were really hand-made, so there was a lot of variation between individual instruments. The neck on mine seems thinner than other 4001s I've played, what is yours like?
It's been a while since I've played an older one, and admit I haven't tried a 4003 ...

I'm back home!
After 25 years of searching, I found my 8th 4001 (the other 7 were played in the 80's), a 1972, well used, well played, and still up for the task! Ya, it's got a few replacement parts, but the electronics are correct. I'd been without a 4001 for a long time, and as soon as I started playing it, I ...
