Re: DR Hi-Beams

But for some reason, i still don't sound anything like Victor. Better to find out with a set of DRs than with a custom Fodera! Also, I want to +1 the Sun Beams recommendation here. I don't have them on my Ric (Fat Beams all the way), but I have them on an old Odyssey bass with Bartolinis ...

Re: DR Hi-Beams

A little late to this thread, but hopefully my experience will add to it. I used DR Hi-Beams on my 4003 pretty much exclusively after moving on from Rotosound 66s and trying out the 77 jazz flats (which were really awesome, but not my style). I tried 55s and they were great but died very quickly, so...

That thing is gorgeous. I was real close to preordering one of those instead of the mapleglo. Congrats!

Re: Who's still waiting on a 4003S?

Thanks everyone! I have to say I agree... it looks like a dream (and plays like one too!). It came tuned and set up perfectly. I'll probably swap out the strings for Fat-beams in the future, but no sense in wasting perfectly good new strings, right? I really couldn't be happier though. Everything ab...

Re: Who's still waiting on a 4003S?

I'm sure we all already know it here, but a shout-out to Pick of the Ricks for the quickest and best customer service I've ever experienced. I got the notice on Tuesday, the shipping notice on Wednesday, and it arrived on Friday, complete with sales receipt, thank you note, etc. Wow. Anyway, please ...

Re: Who's still waiting on a 4003S?

I'm going to break my multi-year posting silence (seriously, it's been since... like... almost a decade ago? I was in college, that much I know) to say that I just got the shipping notification from Pick of the Ricks for my Mapleglo 4003S. I ordered it ~1 year ago I believe. I honestly don't remembe...

Re: Hipshot D-tuner with V63

It works flawlessly for me; it worked flawlessly over an 8 hours studio session recently if that counts. Yes, I was using it multiple times. There is a video on how to compensate for the E going sharp, but mine doesn't go sharp, so I don't compensate. That's good to know, thanks. I'm seriously cons...

You wouldn't be willing to sell just one set by itself, would you?

Re: Hipshot D-tuner with V63

I've actually been wondering about the D-tuner for a long time now. I've been told though that it doesn't work as flawlessly as people claim . . . like, it ends up requiring more retuning later, or it doesn't jump exactly to D from a tuned E, etc. etc. Can anyone here comment on how accurate it is o...

Re: Geddy Lee & Rush - Still Got It?

...the Wal does sound objectively different from the Ric or the Jazz, and it's not just engineering magic. If you sit down and play a Wal and a Ric side by side, you will still sound like you, but they are tonally and electronically just completely different animals. How many Wal owners are there o...

Re: Your favorite songs to play on Ric bass?

I enjoy playing lots of pieces of music, and it's really hard to narrow it all down, but the ones that most often bring a smile to my face would be: Rush - Xanadu Rush - Jacob's Ladder Yes - Something's Coming Yes - Close to the Edge Yes - Soundchaser Genesis - Watcher of the Skies 'Mainstream' is ...

Re: Geddy Lee & Rush - Still Got It?

Rush are sort of why I play bass, and definitely why I bought a Ric, though I've since then found plenty of other reasons to love Rickenbacker basses. Strangely enough, I always thought they had pretty damn "clean" production from 2112 onwards. A Farewell to Kings is my one of my "ide...

Re: Back to the old bridge

So when people say the brass bridge is "darker" sounding than the aluminum or stock bridge, what does that mean? Like more thumpy? Less clanky? I'm not really sure what "dark" is, tonewise.

Re: Be prepared to flip out!!!

That's what I've done with two of my 4004's. I just like the 4001 asthetics better. The problem with doing this on a current 4004 would be the pickup placement up against the fretboard since the entire pickup rises through the guard. The pickup would need to be moved back a bit so the front edge of...
