So when people say the brass bridge is "darker" sounding than the aluminum or stock bridge, what does that mean? Like more thumpy? Less clanky? I'm not really sure what "dark" is, tonewise.

That's what I've done with two of my 4004's. I just like the 4001 asthetics better. The problem with doing this on a current 4004 would be the pickup placement up against the fretboard since the entire pickup rises through the guard.
