Re: Clough Has Done It Again

"Needles and Pins"

Their recording of this song has always been amazing to me for many reasons;

Mike's and John's guitar sound(s). I think (not totally sure) that the dominant guitar one hears (the chimney almost 12 string like one) is probably Mike's ES 345. John's is a bit more muffled and we ...

Re: Another rarity

Thank you Roy for putting that one up for all of us.
I have several questions; Was that just Mike and his band in the studio?
Or- was it Mike when he was still with the Searchers?
Do you know who is playing the lead guitar throughout the song- its great, by the way.

Re: The Searchers Meet Tim Rice

This is a great thread. I'm a big Mike Pender fan, always was and always will be. His vocal skills are so classic and to me in the same category as Orbison and the Everly's. Just listen to Good Bye My Love- amazing. I'm also a guitar player and really love his 6/12 strings accomplishments. His ...

I loved Chris and his contributions to The Searchers. A wonderful talent and is sorely missed.

Take Me For What I'm Worth

As a guitar player myself, I'm always seeking information about Mike and John's talents, parts played, gear and more. One of my favorite Searchers' tunes is the P.J. Proby song "Take Me For What I'm Worth." My (guess) is that - its Mike playing the solo parts in the beginning and middle of this song ...

Re: New Heart

Thanks to Roy and Cheri for posting those great songs. Mike's fantastic voice is clearly up front on melody. Who took over the high harmony parts after Chris left? Who ever it is, John/Frank, does and extremely fine job.

Wonderful and thanks again...

Re: John switches to lead guitar

Hi Nick. Your observation seems logical. Its a bear to haul around alot of gear. Maybe Mike, upon getting his 12 string and realizing it's become the guitar voice for the group, decided to stay with it and let John take over the typical 6 string solo's. I've had several Ric 360/12's and they are ...

John switches to lead guitar

Mike and John are great guitarists in their own right. I know Mike was considered the lead guitarist in the beginning and maybe through most of their early and mid hits. Then I understand John began to assume the lead guitarist roll. Why did they decide to make the switch and when did it actual ...

Re: When You Walk In The Room

Thanks for posting the link to Jackie's "When You Walk In The Room." Its interesting to hear the 12 string guitar used on her version. I'm not sure when Mike got his Ric and what song he first used it on but hearing Jackie's version makes me think Mike wanted to emulate what he heard. Was this song ...

When You Walk In The Room

New to the forum but a life long Searchers fan.

I have 2 questions for the pros on "When You Walk In The Room."
1). I've always been under the impression that Mike used his Rick 360/12 on that track. I recently read that it was Mike and John both on their 6 strings with a little reverb or echo ...
