Re: Yes To be Over

Definitely read an interview with Chris mentioning Precision Bass. And as a trivia matter, his Jazz was Natural finish, not white, blonde or cream... ;-)

'67 4005MG Lefty?

This may or may not even be for sale, but my pal in London came across it, and were both wondering if anyone knows the deal here. Stupid rare I suppose! http://www.fotolibra.com/gallery/693612/1967-rickenbacker-4005-left-handed/?search_hash=810087e040df7e0dda366d6a630b3f91&search_offset=0&se...

Re: How to get more gurgle/belch and less clang/screech.

One thing I found over the years is to study our hero Chris Squire and figure out how he got the multitude of sounds from just one bass, and Rotosounds... Having seen him live like 20 times, I was surprised to see how even with the amp setup, bass and strings all the same, he was getting seve...

Re: Weak neck pickup

Our own Sergio Silva does great rewinds, and he's done lots of ours here, mine included. He runs the "Winding Up With The Best" forum here in the Tech section. Message him!

Also noticed the outtake pic from the '91 session for the CS poster! But no official word. I did notice they're closed for the annual factory summer shutdown for 2 weeks. Perhaps John or Ben will compose something while off?

Re: Chris to be cremated today

I try hard to enjoy his favorite drink, cognac, but just can't develop the taste... The night Chris and I partied into the wee hours, we did manage to finish the bottle of Corvoisier, but man, I was dying... especially mixed with soda water like he did. Not real good.. lol

Re: This One's Been A Bit Modded.....

Well the humbucker idea isn't totally without merit... I'd never do it, but of the guys that did, Mel Schachers' tone on his '69 Jazz was ridiculous on the first 5 albums. HUGE. As is the 'bucker in my '65 Epi Rivoli. A mile wide. Subwoofers love it.

Yes, Mark's a member. Seen more on our FB page though. And his Squire tone is peerless. :-)

Welcome, Curt! Fran here from over at Talkbass. Folks, I invited Curt over to see if we can get his baby back in shape. I thought maybe the "Vibrola" category? Perhaps Peter, or a mod can bump it down? Thanks!

By and large, they're great basses. As good, and better to some, as the 4001. I'd grab it too!

Re: 4001S 64

Great reading, Brian and Dane! And thanks for the CTS info. I only asked because I have lots of experience with 50's and 60's CTS pots as used in vintage Fenders, and for whatever reason, even at the same 250k or 500k values, it seems I've never seen a dish-back CTS used in a Fender. Cool!
