Re: Paul Barth had a guitar company?
Manny, I have a friend that knew Paul Barth back in the mid 1960s up until he passed away. He also knew "Doc" Kauffman, Leo Fender and George Fullerton. Dale has quite a bit of history and info about the Barth and Magnatone Guitars made and designed in the mid 1950s while Paul Barth was wo...

Re: Anyone hear about this?
I live in the Portland area and have come to know Dale. Take it from those of us who live here and know him have a completely different story as to what happened to his family.

Re: Rickenbacker Factory in France
Our IP lawyers were in Europe last week, working with their European colleagues over there to arrange a little surprise for this guy and a few others in the U.K. and Germany. Thank you for your reply. I really couldn't believe that RIC would allow a small shop like this in France. But what I don't ...

Rickenbacker Factory in France
Limited Edition Guitars being built in France? Looks pretty nice for a small custom shop. I didn't know John Hall was spreading out to other countries.

Re: Ric Bass Refinish Project - You Tube Humor
Nice to see someone add some humor to an excellent touch up on a Rickenbacker finish. Thanks for the information about using a Pasche airbrush with lacquer to repair the finish on a bass guitar.

Re: Questions about early basses
According to Dale Fortune and Steve Soest who knew both Paul Barth and Doc Kauffman, they have confirmed that Paul designed most every Rickenbacker guitar and bass from 1954 through 1960 when he worked for Electro String in Los Angeles during the 1950s. Dale told me that he met Doc and Paul Barth in...

Re: Lollar Horseshoe pickups available again
I talked to Mike at Lollars shop, he states these are for a guitar and they are $400.00
There is one on ebay today, kind of expensive but it is a bass model.

Re: Fortune 3301
This is an email i got from him regarding the time it took to build this bass body and complete the project. Dale also expressed that he could build a similar bass but with a body style different enough to avoid trademark problems. Here's the break down on the time to build this bass body. I hope th...

Re: Fortune 3301
There was a phone number listed with the auction, I talked to him and he described it quite differently. The parts came from the person who contacted him to build the body to fit the neck he already had. Time spent on the project was about 10 hours: that's $100 an hour the way I see it to build a bo...

Re: what are 4005s like? (really)
I've had 3 of these over the years, all from the late 60s. 1 a 4005 WB Mapleglo and the others a standard body. I liked the unique tone, a nice variable definition between the bridge and neck pickups. I didn't care for the size of the bass, or the neck setting far out of the body at the 20th fret, b...

My name is James, this is my 1st post here. I belong to several other forums and long ago the Vox Talks forum. I'm a lefty bassist who enjoys playing everything from Beatles to Jazz. I also play guitar, keyboards and a little on the drums. I was following the Ebay auction until it was canceled. Sinc...
