Re: Best/easiest way to remove frets from a 1967 335?

I have the Stewmac free shipping membership so I just placed an order for some. Went with the next higher size which isn't too much difference.

Thanks again

Re: Best/easiest way to remove frets from a 1967 335?

Thanks Collin. I do have those tools and it's basically how I removed them from a couple of aftermarket Tell necks. What size are the original and is there any place special that you get the wire from? I don't have problems with "vintage" frets so the plan is to go with original or just a ...

Best/easiest way to remove frets from a 1967 335?

So, I bought a 1967 Model 335 husk that I've slowly been working on getting complete and playable. Right now I have it somewhat playable but the worn frets are making the already narrow fingerboard play narrower and are cramping things (in more way than one). I think that new and slightly larger fre...

Re: Vox AC-15 TVH

I know that I'm late to this, but I have the combo and its a fantastic amp...especially for the prices these days. I've been a long time fan of EF86 amps and also have a Goodsell that uses it for the preamp. One thing that may be of help in the future is that I've found that EF86 tubes with the scre...

Re: Crooked bridge pickup in a 4003S and treble bezel insert

I had to loosen the other mounting screw that was centered and rotate the pickup on the plate to square it up. Then I tightened down the good screw to keep everything in place. I wasn't sure if I could actually drill a new hole because about 25% of the original threaded hole was still visible throug...

Re: Crooked bridge pickup in a 4003S and treble bezel insert

I guess I can't prove that somebody didn't remove the pickup from the mounting plate and drill a different mounting hole in it until I go the next step, but it looks like I have some extra work to do. The holes in the mounting plate are on center so it's the pickup itself that is crooked. http://i78...

Re: Finish on a 4001CS

It is indeed a 450-12...wasn't too hard to figure that out was it? I just posted it because of the mention of the changing white color. I'm not sure if much of that is from smoke residue or not. I've owned it for about 10 years and it doesn't smell of smoke and the color change is pretty even ...

Re: Crooked bridge pickup in a 4003S and treble bezel insert

It would be nice if it was simply missing a screw. I haven't had it apart since I bought it 8-9 years ago and the bridge cover wasn't installed correctly, but I don't remember seeing screws on the bottom of the pickup (wasn't looking for them either) as I had been told crooked pickups were fairly co...

Re: Crooked bridge pickup in a 4003S and treble bezel insert

How do you remove them from the mounting plate without damaging the pickup? Is it just glue and some careful use of a putty knife will break it loose or are they screwed on from the back? As long as it isn't a complex procedure I would just order the bezel and then fix the pickup alignment at the sa...

Re: Finish on a 4001CS

Did somebody say banana pudding?

I'm assuming my '78 was white at one time, but it has aged very evenly and doesn't smell like smoke. I also like the color as it has aged.

Re: What size screws were used for bridge covers circa 1964?

Thanks Ken, I have some #2 as well and those are definitely too small. From a web search I don't have much faith in finding the hex washer head style in a #3 so I doubt I can match the original which is alright if I have to order a large pack of new ones. I hadn't thought of a gunsmith. I found the ...

Re: Crooked bridge pickup in a 4003S and treble bezel insert

My personal opinion is that it's pretty out of whack  It has never bothered me and I'm sure it has no affect on the sound, but from the pictures I've seen of the bezel insert I don't think they could make the wall thin enough to fit around my pickup (pics below). Is the coil glued to the mount ...

What size screws were used for bridge covers circa 1964?

I'm looking for a bridge cover screw for my 1964 and I can't figure out what size it is. The modern #4 screws are a touch too big. I'm assuming that they are either a #3 or possibly something oddball from before the SAE 60 series standards came about. I can't tell if the one original screw is some f...

Crooked bridge pickup in a 4003S and treble bezel inserts

I know that I posted years ago about my 4003S having a crooked bridge pickup. At the time it was solely out of curiosity and has not been an issue, except that now I'm considering installing one of those CNC machined bezel inserts and I don't think my pickup will fit inside the opening. I go back an...
