McCartney playing his 4001 in late 80's
This is from the "My Brave Face" sessions. Part of it was in the official video but this is a little extended and is with sound. I hadn't seen it before or on here anyway. It looks like he's using neck pickup only and sounds like roundwound strings maybe? https://youtu.be/zK-WWZHvSW0?si=aL...

Re: YouTube RIC bass Sighting
At 4:40 you can see it's not a toaster pickup, and not reverse headstock, so maybe a modified V63 reissue?

Re: Get Back
I thought it was interesting when the control room asked him to switch basses and he brought up the Rickenbacker, then as George Martin was kneeling down to help adjust the tone on the bass, Paul admitted he didn't know what those knobs really did.

The capacitor might be dead (they can wear out over time).

Re: Does the short scale Ric bass sound like a 4000 series?
Do you mean the 3000? I had a '76 short scale 3000 in the 90's that definitely had the Rick growl, not as trebly as the bridge pickup on a 4001, and a little more trebly than a 4001 with both pickups selected. Problem was I could only really get that one tone out of it so wasn't very useful as a sta...

Re: What kind of bass amp do you use with your Rickenbacker?
I have a Yorkville cm100 combo amp that gives a nice warm tone with my Rick and TI-Jazz flatwounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUpGBa51JGA

Re: Tail lift on a 4001C64 re-issue
We shouldn't have to drill holes and put in new screws on a $2,500 bass, aceonbass. Rickenbacker should have done that when they re-made it. Paul McCartney stopped playing his Rick around '85, and I'm wondering if it's because the tailpiece is bent way up and not playable anymore? Just something to ...

Tail lift on a 4001C64 re-issue
I thought they fixed the tail lift problems with the double truss-rod, but I looked down today and saw this on my '09: http://i65.tinypic.com/ilc9rq.jpg I've had TI-Jazz flats on this since I got it, which I thought were lower tension than the originals (?) Why is this happening, why didn't Rickenba...

Re: How to remove 'Reissue' Horseshoe pickup cover
In the original Rickenbacker horseshoe pickup -- used in lapsteels in the '30s and in Rick basses through 1968 -- the "shoes" were of a type of metal that was magnetized and created the magnetic field. The "pickup" or bobbin housed within the "shoes" contained slugs or...

Re: Phaseshifter sound when using both pups normal?
I get that phasey sound on my 4001C64 on either or both pickups at and above the 12th fret. I think it's just part of the Rick sound.

These are TI-Jazz flats on my 4001: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUpGBa51JGA
(That's on the neck pickup with some compression to get the "pop" sound on pick strike).

Re: Strange McCartney pickup mod
What's going on with his bridge pickup here? If it was a lighting thing hiding the pole magnets, I'd think the strings would be equally as black. Did he install some other pickup in the 80's? (Picture from 01:28 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBsSUptatMw) http://i66.tinypic.com/spyx3a.jpg You c...

Re: Strange McCartney pickup mod
You are thinking of the RI horseshoe pickup that is in the 4001C64S you had; the one in McCartney's bass in that photo was during the time there was a hi-gain pickup in it. What brand was that high-gain pickup? The mod Rickenbacker did in the early 70's I thought was just some extra wire round arou...
