Cool. My 4001 has the regular non checkered binding. It's a maple glow and I will have to post some pictures soon.

I am just curious if anyone knows which Potentiometers were used in the 4001 in 1973. I lifted the pick guard up off of my 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 and I noticed 2 pots were CTS dated 1971, but the other two I could not identify. They were marked 303456 6706. Does anyone know where I can find a set of Grover Wavy tuners for a 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 ? I also could use a neck pickup, bridge cover, and the two thumb screws that go in the bridge.
