Re: 4003 Blackstar
I have just heard back from rickenbacker that the serial number on the bass is a custom order and if I send pics they will verify what it is, so.... No modifications. I now think my wife has excellent taste in guitars! (not that I didn't think she had good taste before!!!)

Re: 4003 Blackstar
My Wife bought it second hand from a shop in London quite a few years ago and didn't get any paperwork with it, it's serial number is from 1994, I took it to get it restrung last week, I can only go on what the guy said but after looking at it for a while he said the fret board was original and that ...

Re: 4003 Blackstar
The board is light (lighter than it looks in the photos), it has a golden tone rather than the reddish brown of bubinga, it also has a matt lacquer.

Re: 4003 Blackstar
jdogric12 - no worries about what it is, just may need to get it insured separately, wouldn't dare sell it whatever it is - it would be more than my life's worth (gift from my wife)

Re: 4003 Blackstar
If the fretboard is reddish brown wood (bubinga) with position markers about 3/16" in diameter on the face of the fretboard, then your's is what I guess it to be.
Thanks Bassduke49, it doesn't have any markers on the face of the fretboard, it has tiny microdots on the upper side of the neck ...

4003 Blackstar
Following 5 years of ownership I thought it was time for a re-string, got a bit of a shock in the bass shop when the guy serving me looked in awe when her opened the case. I then discovered that I own a left hand fretless Blackstar (didn't even know one existed) It has an original neck (not a ...
