Re: Wanted - Diagram for connections of stereo harness to jacks.

The jack sockets are standard Switchcraft ones if you havent ordered them yet btw. If the original wiring really is still intact then all you might need to do is separate the two wires coming from the two pickup outputs (if they are both connected to the tip of the old mono socket) and reconnect the...

Re: what was chris squire’s bass refinished with??

Possibly, but for a chain smoking generation like Squire’s sitting in smoky pubs drinking and eating fish and chips living in a world of filthy cars and factories a bit of paint on a guitar would be the least of their health worries.

Re: what was chris squire’s bass refinished with??

Well you never know. Car respray paints would have been readily available through garages and auto spares companies. The paint would have had to have been affordable and quick to apply and dry with money and time being tight. Never underestimate how “cottage industry” and “garden shed” this kind of ...

Re: what was chris squire’s bass refinished with??

The more I look at the Fender Blonde finishes the more I am convinced that that was what Chris and Sam were aiming for. Regarding what type of paint Sam used..its anyones guess but one would have to look at what suitable mixtures of spray paints would have been available in the London of 1970. Car/c...

Compare a ‘72 Blonde Telecaster to Chris’s RM colour.

Re: what was chris squire’s bass refinished with??

This is just my personal opinion about the Sam Li cream refinish we all associate with Chris’s RM. To begin with Chris said in an interview that when he finally decided to get the RM cleaned up and resprayed in (late 1970?) Sam told him “no more wallpaper!” which implies that Sam had done some previ...

Re: Ever swapped a zinc cast tail for a vintage sand cast on

I wouldnt consider anything other than the reissue vintage lookalike tailpiece or as this post hints at..the original sand cast tail. Im happy with the CS/V63 tail that is on the bass at the moment. If a vintage one comes along I will buy it and take it from there. Eventually I will swap the tuners ...

Re: Ever swapped a zinc cast tail for a vintage sand cast on

Thanks Dane. I tried the C64 tail on the CS but it too lifted slightly so I put it on a V63 which I later sold.
My CS has a replacement V63/CS series tailpiece and the original is in my parts box. Actually doing all this will take until next year!

Re: Ever swapped a zinc cast tail for a vintage sand cast on

I am sort of doing it for the aesthetic side of things but after owning three RMs Ive never really been a fan of the zinc tailpiece. The current tailpiece on my CS is the second its had one after the original started lifting. The bridge slot issue is why I am going to have to find the complete artic...

Ever swapped a zinc cast tail for a vintage sand cast one?

Im considering swapping the zinc tailpiece/bridge on my CS for a vintage aluminium one if I can find one.. Im sure a few people have done this in the past but is there any chance you could share the experience? How much surgery is involved? Was it a success? What tips could you give me? I have heard...

Re: How do you get your Rickenbacker’s appraised for insuran

(I imagine musical instrument insurance differs in the US compared with the UK). This is how my cover works. As a gigging musician in Britain (and trips to Europe) I use Allianz for my insurance. The company is recognised as a good insurer with lots of experience with bands and orchestras etc. (The ...

Re: CS Sound Amp Options

Like your username! For home use you could try finding online a Line 6 Guitar Pod 2.0 for the treble output. Second hand they are around £80 and easy to find in good condition. These little units have valve amp models, cabs and effects (tremelo chorous and fuzz should cover most Yes stuff) that are cl...

Re: My 1999 Ric is older than Squire and Macca's

I tried the “ex-Blackfoot Sue” RM at a Denmark St shop in ‘76. I think they wanted four hundred quid for it. I said to the guy in the shop that it looked like someone had used it to dig up the road. It had chunks out out of it and was a real wreck. Two years later I bought Maurice Gibbs RM for £295 ...

Re: My 1999 Ric is older than Squire and Macca's

In more recent years with the benefit of the various technical hints tips and expertise of guitar restorers here on the Resource and elsewhere its a knocking bet that the RMs with “teething troubles” and bent necks were repairable but the know-how was not available locally here in Britain at that ti...

Re: My 1999 Ric is older than Squire and Macca's

I have a June 1976 Beat Instrumental interview in which John Entwistle mentions having the first two RMs. He said “I bought the first one to come into the country but it had “teething troubles” and had to go back so I bought the second one”. He didnt say what the problem was with the first one.
