thinking of first bass - is fretless an option?
Hi everyone. I just put a question on the RIC bass line in the fretted section. I am interested in the difference or restrictions of fretless as I've never seen them before. Can and are they suitable for all styles, or limited to flatwound jazz moods alone? Looks alone, fretless very nice. Thanks fo...

thinking of a first bass
I'd like to learn bass, and always liked Rickenbacker basses. Of the 4 string varieties RIC offer in modern times (last 10 or so years) what should I look out for with the 4003 and 4004? It seems that is all that is available? I'm not after a vintage or antique type, and it's only for fun at home. I...

12 string slotted through?
I found this wonderful tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF5_L0O2Fnw and noticed the headstock is slotted right through! Does RIC now make their 12 strings like this? When did that start? It's not a bad idea. Also seemed it was strung with 6 instead of 12. Making the 12 even more versatile

Still finding my way around. I hope this is the right spot for this link - "Sleepwalk" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF5_L0O2Fnw
on a Rickenbacker 330. Looks like a 12 string, but with 6 strings. It seems the headstock is slotted right through.

interesting you say that, as the first Rick I saw WAS in the 80s (on tv of course). Black and white 4003(?) during the "Madness" film clip "It must be love".

Re: RIC HB1 pickups - versatile?
I've been searching through youtube to find clips of 300 series Ricks with HB1s. No luck unfortunately. I did find a comparison http://www.youtube.com/user/docjeffreyb#p/u/43/4Cs1NGcS4yE with a 300 series with scatterwounds, a 620 with higains, and the Dakota with the HB1 humbuckers. I know the Dako...

Re: Best playing most versatile Gretsch
with the bigger Gretsch range, that choice is either harder (or easier) these days. Some good & diverse suggestions. Good luck with your eventual choice, and thanks for letting us know when you get it!

congrats on the GreTsch. Do you plan on the similar mods that Peter did to his G5120?

60s 70s 80s 90s 00s most popular Ricks?
Sorry if this is not the right forum to raise this question. Popular music throughout the decades tends to follow ages too. As a loose collection of periods I wonder which Rickenbacker model was the most popular (sold) during the last 5 decades. I've had a search, but was not successful. If i were t...

Interesting read. Not having played a 3/4 Rick and ignorant of the specifics of John Lennon's 325, I look forward to even more interesting reads within this thread. Thanks for posting

Re: RIC HB1 pickups - versatile?
I just had a thought about wiring. During the circuit work or wiring process, has anyone taken a picture of the original wiring, and then with the modifications to circuit, push-pull pots and HB1 wires?
