Re: 4001 1972 Bridge pickup wanted
Friends I have a Dilemma .. :?: 1: look for the original piece, it would be the best solution to maintain the value of the instrument. 2: mount a pickup Rickenbacker current production... 3: mount a good pickup craft? Which of these solutions (2/3) to enhance the value of the instrument? Go with Se...

I think I've owned...10? Most at once was three 4001s, I currently just have the one 4001 (and the 480 of course).

Re: String type & gauge question for Pre 73 bass owners
My '71 4001 (and any other bass I've ever owned) wears Ernie Ball Super Slinkies (45-65-80-100), every single time. No flats or low-tension strings for me...

Re: Lollar lawsuit
Both guitars and bass. 50% is praise, and the other 50% start out with something guarded like "nice Rick" and then proceed to go into their bad experiences and why they hate the company, instruments or certain characters involved who need not be named. Never experienced this myself. Talki...

AAACK my binding!!!
Aw hell: http://imageshack.us/a/img839/9308/20130605234604.jpg I just noticed this gap in the binding on my 4001 last night, and I'm pretty sure it's fresh. The bass almost always resides in the living room in my apartment, but I recently moved it to the band room. It's been on a stand in both rooms...

"played a Rick instead of that dumb Jazz" - "instead" implies a comparison - Jazz is capitalized - Fender Jazz Bass.

Re: Paper under the nameplate
It's masking tape. Used to mark the guitar in the factory... Ricks often have weird writing in the control cavity or under the nameplate, especially the older ones. My 480 says "480QQ" in the control cavity, who know why! You sometimes see names written (i.e. who worked on it). It rarely m...

Re: how to spot an unmodified, original 480?
Checked out the listing, it's pretty stock as far as I can tell. The TRC may be original or not, they didn't always use the ones with the model #s on them. Looks real clean, too...but Mark is right - way overpriced! I'd think you could find a comparable late-70s 480 for half that. 480s are nasty lit...
