Yes, it was just the SansAmp, no tone corrections on the mixer. Interesting, isn't it? Of course a real, big full stack with a good miking is another thing... assuming the fact that one KNOWS how to set it properly!

If you want to try to emulate Squire's sound the SansAmp can be useful just as an overdrive pedal, not as an amp substitute. I also saw Squire with Yes back in 1974 (or '73?), and he was using a blackface Dual Showman with its 2x15" JBL cab.

My CS has none to do with a 4003, and sounds meaningfully more Squire-ish than my V63.

Roto strings are the best, they're incredibly bright and "twangy", but unfortunately this state lasts a very few hours...

Maybe the 1988 was a special year, because I saw a lot of earlier V63s with the "normal" body wings and shapes...

Bob, I DO enjoy my bass! I would never sell it because I love its sound, its neck and everything... to not mention the fact that I have some very special personal reasons to love it.

As you can see, it's not only a matter of fatter horns: the neck joints on my V63 and on Tony's one have the same shape of a 4003S (see the frets and the distance between the pickguard and the body edge).

All the V63 I saw had the body ...

My '88 V63 has thicker horns (and extra screws on the tailpiece) too. Funny that I noticed it just when I purchased my 4001CS and put the babies close together for a "family picture"...
