FWIW, on his DVD Roger McGuinn advocates tuning down a 1/2 step to "give the guitar's neck a break." I did it while playing along with the DVD, but I agree it is a pain in a world that doesn't have much use for the keys of C# and F# major. And I'd rather play in standard than use a capo to get there ...

I have been watching the McGuinn DVD obsessively and trying to get my sea legs. I've almost worked up the gumption to change the strings ...

Yesterday I pulled the trigger on a used FG 370/12, which should arrive next week. I am deliriously happy and am sure I will pester you all with questions and solicitations for advice on mods etc.

So, let's say you've got a 370/12 with Hi Gain pickups. You can't afford to upgrade to three toasters all at once . In what order do you replace them if the goal is to maximize jangle?
