Nothing better then a Rick like McCartney uses. The perfect looking bass. I own one and would never sell it yet alone use it out. I bought a used black one with the triangle fret markers. As for old vs new can you really pick out Johns sound on CD's or better still LPs. He didn't have a "jangly" sound and it's hard sometimes to tell what he is actually playing.
