Re: New trussrod question

The new dual action truss rod is NOT removeable without planning the fingerboard off. It is nothing like the Gibson style compression rod.

Re: Saddles Keep Moving - 2001 4003s

Disassemble the bridge. Drill the saddle screw holes in the bridge out to the next size up, then reassemble. The saddles will settle down a bit and stop vibrating. Leveling the bottom of tbe saddles will only increase their clearance from the top of the bridge, and make the problem worse. Then again...

Re: Non-lacquered fretboard

I prefer the feel of the unlacquered fingerboard on the 4003SMGCB I bought earlier this year. As far as I'm concerned, RIC can stop coating their basses with polyurethane any time now.

Re: 4003S mono wiring

I suppose since only the outputs of the volume controls are connected together, they aren't really in series, but they aren't connected with a jumper wire in an instrument with ROS. This has to make some kind of difference, but I don't know how it would be measured since the volume pots measure half...

Re: 4003S mono wiring

Something just occured to me. Although the main harness is the same in mono and stereo Ricks, when in mono, there is a jumper wire between the C3 lugs of both volume pots that connects them in series to the output jack. When you have Rick-O-Sound, that wire isn't there. Instead you have separate shi...

Re: 4003S mono wiring

Just for more data: In my complete 2016 4003 stereo harness ( which I don’t use anymore as harness is out of the bass and just sits in a shelf cabinet now ) my pots read: 295 286 312 and 311/312 on the push pull tone knob between decks depending on which way post is rotated fully and if in push or ...

Re: 4003S mono wiring

The pickups will measure about 12k ohms,. The tone pots will measure about 275k, and the volume pots(although they're the same) will measure about half that because they're wired in series to a mono output.

Re: 4003S mono wiring

The circuitry in all current 4003 basses is the same. Only the output jack wiring is different in that it allows for separation of both pickups via the stereo jack. Otherwise, plugging into the mono jack, which shorts both outputs together, with result in exactly the same tonal output as in a 4003S....

Re: Is it salvagable?

$2500.00 for THAT bass? Even if the neck didn't have a pretty severe crack, it's way overpriced. especially for a "couch" bass.

Re: Saddle Adjustment Help on 4001

While turning the saddle around will give you more adjustment to intonate the string, the string will also end up closer to the edge of the fretboard because it's not in the center of tbe saddle. You can gain quite a bit of additional travel by removing the saddle, grinding some material off of the ...

Re: 4004 Replacement Tuners

I use Hipshot Ultralights on my 4004Cii. You will have to rheem the peg holes out to a larger size though. I use the ones with a cloverleaf key, and there is a drop-d version available also from Hipshot.

Only When both volume controls are at the same level. vary one or the other, and a fuller tone will return.

Re: Les Claypool

I saw some video from Primus' FTK tour, and was not impressed with a lot of Les' playing on the Rush tunes, and he definitely shouldn't sing any Rush. I'm normally impressed by everything Les does, but the Rush tunes need more rehearsal time.

Re: VVT the only way to get no comb filtering with m volume?

A blend pot or separate volume controls will eliminate the phase cancellation as long as you're biasing pne pickup over the other. In some cases a .01uF capacitor placed in line with one of the pickup leads will also do the trick un some cases.

Re: Ever swapped a zinc cast tail for a vintage sand cast on

Peter.....If you find a cast tailpiece, you'll find tbe 3 mounting holes aren't in the same place. The center one is particularly offset to one side. The saddles also have very little travel on the narrower bridge, but the bridge pocket can be machined to accept the later bridge assembly. I'd try an...
