Adding anything to the top of the bridge pickup's E-string pole just sounds cheesy to me. I mean these are supposed to be among the best basses in the world right? I solved this problem by notching the E-string's bridge saddle a bit deeper. I used a Dremmel and made a nice rounded channel(as I did w...

Here's another solution. Make the string slot in the E and G string saddles deeper to get the strings closer to the pole pieces. You might also try purchasing new sadles for the A and D strings and cutting them a little shallower. Notching the E string will limit that strings intonation adjustment b...

Then you've done this before? If I ship you the neck with a couple of new rods will you perform this mod? While you're at it, I also want Rickenbacker style triangle inlays done on the fingerboard. If this all sounds like something you would be into doing then how much? would be my next question. Th...

When was this truss rod cover used?
I have a white vintage style clear truss rod cover from a 4001. Unlike the reproduction vintage covers I've seen, this one also says "Made in USA" and right below it "Model 4001" paralell to the nut. Can anyone tell me the years this style was used and perhaps what it may be worth?

What a coincidence, I was just listening to Ashes Are Burning from Renaissance's Live at Carnegie Hall the other day and I still think Jon Camp's solo was kinda weak and repetitive at times. Squire's solo on The Fish from YesSongs was much better and more inspired. Camp's bass lines for the most par...

All of the above reasons and explanations are assuming you expect to be caught. Some are actually pretty entertaining. Now that my wife is out of the room I'll tell you what I'd do/have done in other situations. Put the 350 MG away and bring out the new Dakota. Stand it kinda behind the others on it...

Ah yes...it was 1979 and I was 18. My first real job paid for my first real bass, a new Fireglow 4001. After 3 years of Squire worship with an Ibanez Rick copy I finally had the real thing. Alas it was not to be. Six months later it was stolen at a gig. It was replaced my a used Jetglo 4001 which I ...

Truss Rod Retro-fit
I would like to know if the newer style 4000 series truss rods can be dropped in in place of the older units. Specifically a mid 70's 3001 that I'm customizing with an ebony fingerboard( I never liked rosewood)and triangle inlays. I thought since the fingerboard was off I'd do this if it were possib...
