Chris Hillman LIVE @ National Aviary 5-21-2004

I saw Chris Hillman perform at the National Aviary for birds here in Pittsburgh, PA last night, and I had an EXCELLENT time. Not only is Chris a fine musician, he's also a really nice guy in person too. This was a really cool and intimate performance for about 250 people at the National Aviary that ...

Oh yeah, that's on Crown of Creation, I almost forgot about that song. If I remember correctly, it sounded kinda similar to "The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil" but a little more slow and menacing, like much of the Crown of Creation album itself. That's probably why I prefer After Bathing at ...

Fred Neil 12-string Guitar Hero of the 1960s

I recently got some Fred Neil albums, and have just been fascinated by them, he's Excellent! Crosby definitely picked up some style from him, no question about that. John Sebastian and David Crosby both write appreciations to Fred in the liner notes of The Many Sides of Fred Neil. Fred was making ...

Roger was the highlight of the show. Some of the other acts were pretty good, although some are gettin' older in the years and probably aren't used to playing out like that much anymore. Roger is getting older too, but he doesn't look too bad. That hat though, is he trying to cover his thining hair ...

Dillard & Clark - Fantastic Expedition

I just got the Dillard & Clark disc "Fantastic Expedition / Through the Morning, Through the Night". Two albums on one cd. This is some GREAT early country-rock circa 1968 that is every bit as good as the Byrds "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" and Bob Dylan's "Nashville Skyline". This is some vital early ...

Another Byrds Forum

Hello ya'll, I'm not Johnny Cash. But I do think there ain't enough Byrds related discussion forums on the internet these days. The Rickenbacker Forum will always be my favorite place for Byrds discussion. This is definitely a cool place. But, I just think there should be more Byrds discussion on ...

Yeah, the funky hat was cool :-)

As to the RM 370/12 on display at the R&R Hall of Fame, I have no idea. I imagine if it's one of his signature guitars, then it is a McGuinn guitar, but I'm not sure if he ever used that one or not or when if ever. I don't know how we could find out unless someone ...

Cool to hear that you were there, David. We were sitting in the 6th Row over on the right side of the Theatre. What view of the show did you get? Also, did you get any pictures? I saw some people had digital cameras with basically no flash at all, I think it would be cool to find some photos of this ...

>> How was his rendering of "If I Needed
>> Someone"?

It was Cool. He played it right after "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better", and played it with a very similar "jangley" Rickenbacker riff as that song. It sounded like it could've been a classic Byrds song. The Byrds and the Beatles definitely ...

Roger McGuinn in Cleveland Ohio 11/08/2002

I saw Roger McGuinn last night, and he is still as good as ever. Really good vocals and Excellent 12-string guitar skills.

Here's exactly what Roger played in order at the Ohio Theatre in Cleveland Ohio 11/08/2002:

1. My Back Pages
2. Ballad of Easy Rider / Wasn't Born to Follow
3. Pretty ...

I've seen the exact guitar book that you're talking about, and yeah, it's a cool book with lots of pics of classic guitars and amps and such.

On whether Hillman and Clarke were on the released "Preflyte", I think they are in fact playing on those "preflyte" sessions that were recorded at World ...

I just picked up Gene Clark "Echoes", and I REALLY Enjoy it!! "Echoes" includes Gene's entire first solo album "Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers" (1966) plus a few bonus tracks and some early Byrds stuff too. The first four tracks are from the Byrds "preflyte" sessions recorded at World Pacific ...
