Quick update:
I spoke to Dan from DM Guitars who has suggested (subject to seeing the bass) that it's likely to cost around £250/$400 to refret and refinish the neck, to refinish the whole bass, given the fact the body has been oiled, he was suggesting around £5-650/$8-1000. He is also inundated ...

Re: A quick feeler!?
It is a lot of work to get it back to near original, but the seller says it's a good player (and better after the re-fret probably). So it depends what you're looking for.

Re: A quick feeler!?
I'm not sure if a refinish on top of tung oil will be that successful, or if it can be stripped back completely. I think I saw a thread here warning of problems, can't find it at the mo.

Re: A quick feeler!?
Hmm, I'd definitely want it done properly - which does make me a bit nervous to be honest - it seems as well as needing a refret the first inlay on the fingerboard is sitting slightly proud - makes me wonder if the truss rods are functioning and whether or not the bass is salvageable (within a ...

Re: A quick feeler!?
Hi Dirk,
You're right, it is a bound fingerboard - gives me some idea as I've never had to consider refretting anything before, so honestly wouldn't have a clue as to likely cost!?
Many thanks for the response.

A quick feeler!?
Hi All,
I've been offered a '73 4001 which needs a refret - I realise it's rather tricky without seeing it but does anyone have an idea of likely cost - ballpark?
Thanks in anticipation!
Pete

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
Hmm, I've no real personal experience of Ashdown aside from a bass playing friend had an Ashdown MAG C210T 300 Combo, it was really badly unreliable - I really felt for him as whilst playing mid gig the amp just died with no warning and no apparent symptoms of failure - one minute it sounded ok the ...

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
dude that is SICK! I want it haha. Is it just a modded circuit of an existing pedal?
I believe it's a clone of an EHX small clone chorus with a couple of mods thrown in - he does this as a bit of a hobby really - but he's bl00dy good at what he does!

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
Anyone got a good way to simulate the slurpy bass sounds on "No Quarter" by led Zep? An early key bass synth? Anyone know what JPJ used on this track?
A friend of mine covered No Quarter and used an Electro Harmonix Stereo Talking machine to achieve a passable result!?

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
I really wouldn't hesitate in shelling out the cash and buying one! :)
its a great amp but at 100 watts its just keeps up with a Marshall halfstack and a hard hitting drummer. its good enough, but I cant spep on the gas and push it into overdrive...know what I mean?
Of all the amps I have ...

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
I have a couple of effects but rarely find them useful in a band setting. I like fooling around with them when I am practicing and get some unique tones but again, they haven't seemed to blend well. I have a Big muff and a Digitech bass synth wah.

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
The Woolly is very cool - the thing that makes it unique (to me) is the "pinch" knob which introduces a noise gate. I guess I'm actually pretty lucky to have pedals that I know and trust - pedal GAS is dangerous because they seem more affordable than basses or amps, but they add up quickly!
Tell ...

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
I would love to be able to remix the track, but this is one of my earliest studio recordings, and the files I have are only stereo mixdown, not individual tracks. I had no idea what I was doing back then (10 years ago!!!) and the engineer was a guitarist (I love and respect the guy so I won't ...
