One can also use a #10 nylon washer, available in the U.S. at any Ace Hardware store.

It's got exactly these washers installed. Must have had some good owners.

Okay, strap buttons have arrived and been installed. Took a bit of effort to unscrew the old ones but it's ready to gig with now.

Thanks for the help people, glad it's a straightforward and reversible process. I really wasn't keen on any woodwork!

Can anyone give me any advice on this? I've ordered these, are they right for the typical Schaller strap loc...
