Re: Cap Bypass Mod

Thanks David, I do all the work on my guitars too to a point. The frets I'll leave to a luthier. My 4001 is a '77 with original frets so they are pretty worn and I don't know if they can be leveled. It's not something I have to get done right away but sometime in the future. I took guitar lessons at ...

Re: Cap Bypass Mod

Ricosoundman: How does bypassing the cap effect your stereo setup?

dminer: I notice you're in Atlanta. Is there anybody around here you would recommend for a fret leveling or refret? I've used a guy down in Jackson named Tom Dodson but not for any Rick work. I've gotten a quote from him and he ...

Cap Bypass Mod

Finally bypassed the cap in my 4001, I hate that I waited so long, it sounds great! This was to be temporary until I could get the push/pull pot but I can't see ever going back. It's interesting how it seems to PLAY better even though nothing else changed.

Re: cleaning sticker mark

Even if you can get it flat you may still be able to see it because that sticker protected the area from light. Any fading that happened due to exposure to light didn't happen under the sticker. I see this all the time detailing cars.

Re: And now for something completely different . . .

I don't really like the color combo either but the paint job is high quality. A fade like that is hard to do that smoothly.

Re: I Shielded My Bass

I didn't mean to upset anyone. I'm sorry the file is hard to hear. I'm satisfied with the improvement, I wish I had a better way to demonstrate it for you guys but I don't.

Re: I Shielded My Bass

Really? I tried to do something that some one might find useful. If it isn't useful to you that's fine. If it's not useful to anyone else that's fine too but it helped me hear the difference shielding my bass made. That's all. I guess I won't go to the trouble next time.

Re: I Shielded My Bass

Well with headphones and the volume a little higher than normal, not 11, 5 instead of 3 I can hear it clearly. But we are listening for silence so...

I Shielded My Bass

Since I had the shielding material out to do my splitter box I thought I'd go ahead and do my bass while I was at it. I've read a lot about shielding on this forum, some for some against, some makes a difference some doesn't. So I did mine and recorded a before and after to see if it made any ...

Re: Home-Made Ric-o-Sound

I labeled it that way because the Ric-o-Sound boxes that I've seen were labeled that way. My Ric is a '77 with the cap still in place so I don't get much bass from the bridge pickup although some time in the future I'm going to do the push-pull mod.

"Bass" and "Treble"?!? How about, "Neck" and ...

Re: Home-Made Ric-o-Sound

I shielded the inside of the box with foil tape (sorry don't have a pic) and made sure everything was grounded, even the 4 screws that hold the bottom cover on. I hear no additional noise with the box. I picked it up and moved it around, passed it near the monitor, pretty much as far as the cord ...
