Can't turn the gain down! The guitar is used by "The Edge" of a Professional Touring U2 Tribute Band.. Gotta have Mr. The Edge's Tones!

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

Final report:

We ended up cutting 2 pieces of 1" foam to fit and filled both body cavities. (Left side squished through the soundhole with no problem.)

Feedback gone. No need for wax-potted pickups.

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

When pulling off the original pickups I noticed this.. This cannot be normal. The bars are split and look like chipped on both pickups only on the "south" sides of the center hole. I googled photos of the backs of other hi gains and found nothing like what these look like. Before going any...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

You'll likethe way it sounds a lot better too... have you tried your V64? Yes, the V64 was more tolerant.. - which is what gave us the idea to go with the lower output toasters and boost their signal outside the body of the 330. If you've never tried one of these, they work magic on Rickenbackers. ...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

If the cause has been found, why don't you just waxpot your current PUs to cure that larsen ??? For a few reasons.. We want to go with Vintage Output and Look and once you wax there's 'no going back' and so as not to molest the guitar's original pickups (for collectability, resale later, etc). Plus...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

Update... Reducing compression had no effect. Backing off on comp/gain/treble levels to the point of having the minimum effect we need did nothing. It still squealed like a pig at the last gig. (Its a U2 Tribute Band so we need to run it with effects like The Edge. We're using a Fractal Audio Axe FX...

Re: Celestion Blue made for AC15C1??

I have AC30's and AC15's.. some with Blues and some with Greens.. There is not a huge difference. The Blues might be a little cleaner - better for recording. The Greens seem better suited for stage. If you want to make a REALLY drastic improvement, swap out the tubes for the new Mullard Reissues. I ...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

I just noticed you use a compressor; in my experience, compressors are notorious for causing "ice pick" feedback in my Ricks, far bigger offenders than amps alone, or overdrive pedals; I generally don't use them, but I do like the effect of the Dyna Comp compressor Jake Kety gave me; it w...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

I've shoved foam inside the sound hole on a Rick, but that didn't work. Controlled, wailing/moaning feedback is desirable at times. What one wants to avoid is the "ice pick" feedback. I use a lot of overdrive onstage, with an additional pedal's boost onstage. I've had the most success con...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

One last thought, the amp you use for on stage monitoring, is it pointing right at you? If so, move it off to the side or put it behind you. We're trying that and some different things like knocking the compressor setting down a notch or two. The Axe and Korg go straight to board so it may be that ...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

Interestingly when Mark Rob and I were at Grahams playing the Weller guitars Mark found some sponge shoved up the upper horn.Im sure PT used the same method as Im sure ive read that somewhere. This was my thought too. High gain single coils in a Semi-Hollow with a soundhole.. Fill it with foam. The...

Re: 330 Feedback. Cures?

My guess would be some parameters on either the Fractal Audio Axe FX II or the Korg A3 not playing nice with each other and pushing the guitar into feedback. It could also be the pregain set too hot at the board. I doubt it has much to do with the foam mounting ring. It runs through either one or t...

330 Feedback. Cures?

Does anyone have any ideas on curbing feedback on a Rick 330/12 with Hi Gains? (2013 Model) The rig is Guitar > Fractal Audio Axe FX II > Korg A3 > House system. An amp is only used for stage monitoring. We use any/or: Vox AC15C1, Vox AC30C2, Roland KC350 Full Range. I've heard the rubber pickup gro...

Re: Pickguard for 325V59

Clear Plexiglass sheets are available here: http://www.professionalplastics.com/PLEXIGLASS - EXCUSE me for spelling it with one "S" which indicates the Arkema brand name. I said clear painted gold on the back - which is all the Rick c58 and v59 Pickguards are. The paint is not even sealed....
