Rickysounds in the UK still has the 4001 bezels in stock. I purchased a cove model just a few weeks ago.

If you're interested in selling your straight-edged pickup surround once you've replaced it, I'm in the market for one. Send me a PM.

Re: Optima flatwounds 4440
Those seeking some player information may wish to contact Luke (loveboatcaptain) in Britain for information. He was flight testing those (the band is RenattaJane) around the end of January for Optima. When he received them he sent me a picture (different packaging) of about 7 or 8 sets. Included bo...

Re: Vintage 4001 String Spacing at Nut
I asked my luthier and he said he would expect the center of the E to be farther from the edge of the board than the G to account for the difference in the string gauge.

Re: Vintage 4001 String Spacing at Nut
Thanks, It is interesting that the center of the E string is a little farther from the end of the nut than the G string. I wonder if that's intentional, to account for differing thickness of the strings? Look again - I think there is a shadow on the G side of the nut. Look at the fretboard under th...

Re: Vintage 4001 String Spacing at Nut
Thanks. 7/16" spacing is just a bit tighter than the spacing on my 2011 4003. Jeff, have you ever measured the spacing on your 4001?

Vintage 4001 String Spacing at Nut
Hi all, I'm having a new nut made for my March 1973 4001 and I want to have it cut with the correct narrow string spacing for the era. Does anyone know the measurements for the proper spacing? Specifically, my luthier asked for the distance in millimeters between the center-line of the E and G strin...

Re: The Famous Ric/Maxima S4440 Flatwound
After doing a little online sleuthing, it appears that what I've probably got is a set of 4445 strings rather than 4440's. There's a good description of the 4445 set in this thread: http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=400317 Below is a link to an album containing some photos o...

Re: The Famous Ric/Maxima S4440 Flatwound
Does anyone know whether all sets of Maxima 4440's have purple silk on the ball end of each string? I have one set with purple silks, but I recently obtained a set of what we're supposed to be Maxima 4440's, but thy have no silk on the ball ends. Also, the strings are a dull gray color rather than s...

Bridge Mod
Here's an interesting bridge mod that I don't believe I've ever seen before. It doesn't appear that it would make intonation any easier, but if individual string height adjustment is your thing, well here you go. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rickenbacker-4001-Electric-Bass-Guitar-/162080100371?hash=item2...

Re: 1973 4001 nut
Jason, I don't have the bass with me at the moment so I can't say for sure, but I do believe it is MC703. Since you used to own it, do you have any clues as to the mystery of the expanded treble pickup route? My guess is that someone put a split coil P-bass pup in there at some point. I'm planning o...
