I have one installed on my '87V63 and it is very nice.
Nothing extraordinary or troublesome. Just does the job well.
I had forgotten it was even on the bass until I was catching up on the RRF threads

I own both but prefer the sounds I can achieve on the 4001.
From a playability standpoint, I have no preference.

I just checked the pickguardian site for a 4003 pg in any variation of purple but did not see anything close.

Are there any other reputable companies that might do 4003 guards in a purplish color?

Probably more than you want to spend but the Shure GLX-D is a great wireless unit. I have used it for the past 8+ years without a hiccup for bass, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. I use Stringjoys out of Nashville. Great sound, long lasting and custom gauges to match Ric originals.

I have a couple on my basses. They work well and look good....almost invisible.
For me personally, it rides just a tad higher than I would like but when I make the effort to get up on it, it feels pretty good.

Since around 2010 or so, it is my understanding that the standard string gauges are 45-55-75-105. I am curious as to what were the standard gauges prior to this date? Do most of you try to stay within those current specs? Again curious because I have been buying 45-60-85-105 Stringjoys for the last ...

I picked up one of those Jacksons a few months ago when Musicians Friend had an overstock sale for $499. For that price it was well worth the investment. Not to be a smart *** but my Mesa TT-800 amp gives me more brightness/clarity than I can comfortably hear without the expense or hassle of changing pups on my Rics.

The relatively new Mesa TT-800 has that ability.

You can do it yourself but it does require time and patience. Other options with easier intonation would be the new babicz bridge which is a drop in replacement or a different assembly like the hip shot.

I’ve used those before and really like them. Not quite a floppy as the TI strings.

The posts on the Ric Vol/Tone seem larger than my other bases.
What shaft size do I need to change the knobs?
