Re: 450/12 few questions

Hi Folks,

I'm back here with another question regarding this great guitar. First off, it has moved with me across the country and we are both residing happily in Los Angeles, home of so much 12 string wonder. I still love this guitar and everyone else who plays it agrees it is a unique specimen ...

Re: 4001s w/ split pickguard?

hehe well thank you for the condolences. Yes it MIGHT have been a good deal, but also the neck MIGHT have been messed up, let's hope it was the latter ;)

Re: 4001s w/ split pickguard?

well I waited too long aand it's sold. I'm an idiot. The guy found a trade for a Les Paul, which is what he wanted (what a loser!) Actually I'm a little ****** he didn't inform me since we had an active discussion going about the bass!

Was it one of you??????

Maybe it's for the better, I really ...

Re: 4001s w/ split pickguard?

thanks guys! I have played many a 4003 but I'm not sure if I've ever actually played a 4001. I am most curious about the slimmer neck, although I've never really had a problem with the way the 4003 feels.

And yes you are right, it is a 4003s.

As far as the pickguard, I would replace that with an ...

Re: 4001s w/ split pickguard?

Update from the seller!

Upon closer inspection he has informed me that it is in fact a 4003. That kind of bums me out a little, I was excited about the potential 4001. I guess the main difference here would be the neck profile/thicker truss rods and hardware, correct?

I just love the no binding so ...

Re: 4001s w/ split pickguard?

whoa, my post just got deleted as well... weird

here is what I wrote

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the prompt response! I am going to see if I can get him to send me a couple more photos, of the back and of the truss rod cavity.

I guess I didn't know they made the 4003 without binding.

Will update!

4001s w/ split pickguard?

Did they ever make these?

I am looking at purchasing what claims to be a 1986 4001s, which has a split pickguard. No binding, non-toaster pickups, everything else seems to check out for a 4001. I'm just trying to make sure I would be getting what I think I'm getting.

Also, I would want to swap ...

Re: 450/12 few questions

UPDATE

After stringing the guitar up with a full 12 string set I found that the nut had a problem with the low E popping off and some intonation problems so I decided to have a friend guitar tech give it a good once over. He cut a new nut, cleaned up the frets, and most importantly added a 12 ...

Re: 450/12 few questions

Thanks for the info folks. I use D'Addarios on most of my guitars and really like the consistency and quality. I might just go with the D'Addario 10-46 12 string set. I would normally say I lean more towards the Byrds side of things than the Smiths but I celebrate 12 stringing of all generations ...

Re: 450/12 few questions

Thanks! It seems so much smaller and easier to play than my 330, I guess it's just the shape of the neck.

On bass I swear by flatwounds, but usually with electrics I go with roundwounds. I'll most likely put roundwounds on the 450/12 but am toying with the idea of flats.

450/12 few questions

Hey all,

I recently acquired a 1981 450/12, specifically this guitar: http://www.rickresource.com/register/viewitem.php?id=17042

The previous owner had it set up as a 6 string, and I gotta say it is a GREAT sounding/playing guitar as a 6 string, but I gotta get it back to a 12. He also replaced ...
