Wow indeed. Not many 50 year old basses in the world that are looking that good. A special creature and no mistake!

Re: Hey Everyone, New Member, New Guitar
Just my angle on it, but... if I was putting non-RIC aftermarket pickups into a RIC instrument, I would keep the original pups. If the day ever comes that you need to sell the guitar, it'll be a lot more appealing to the market if you can offer it with its original pups (even as spares). No matter h...

Hi Pete and welcome aboard.
That's a lovely instrument - especially with all the vintage mods. Tasty.

Re: How records are made...
I don't know whether this has been mentioned in this thread before - or elsewhere on the forum - but for anyone who is interested in the technology of early electric direct-to-disc recording, I would strongly recommend you take a look at the BBC Arena documentary series "American Epic", fr...

Re: What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?
One factor to keep in mind if using plastic washers/spacers is that the pickup cover's chrome finish is conductive and thus should contribute to electromagnetic screening. Placing plastic spacers between it and the metal bezel will reduce the surface area of contact between the cover and the bezel.

Could it have anything to do with the new single truss rod, maybe?

Re: What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?
There is no rubber grommet or spacer used. By the sound of it, I think you may be fitting the cover in the wrong way. The baseplate of the pickup goes at the bottom end of the adjustment bolts, then there's a long spring on each bolt. The pickup cover goes at the top of the springs (and they exert t...

Try the polyester thread trick first - could save you a lot of time and expense.Malchik wrote: The bass is a 2021, my flub. Re-drilling the saddle screw holes and tapping them for larger adjustment screws is probably the best solution but that is a little beyond my talents.

Re: Saddles Keep Moving - 2001 4003s
Then again, that advise applies to the old style bridge. Is this bass *MAYBE* a 2021 instead of a 2001? Context is everything. Absolutely - when I first read the OP's query, I assumed they were talking about the new V2 bridge with individually adjustable saddles and had just typed the year wrong. I...

Re: 4003S mono wiring
Hi Laird and welcome. :) I can't answer your query about whether the mono basses are wired differently, but you do raise an interesting point: that on the stereo basses, when one is plugged into the mono output jack and using the selector switch to take the neck pickup out of circuit, the signal fro...
