Re: ‘67 modded 330 (335) vs new 330, need help and insight
90% of vintage Rick 12-strings (particularly 1964-1966) either need a neck reset or have had one. It’s fair to say they cannot handle the tension of normal strings, and I highly recommend anybody using 8s on early 12-string models. The modern era instruments are a totally different ball game but 60...

Re: ‘67 modded 330 (335) vs new 330, need help and insight
In case anybody questions that the neck can handle 12's, remember that the same neck and truss rods is/was used for the 12-string guitars. The factory 12-string set is a 10's set. Without going through all the math, suffice to say that the tension with the factory strings on a 12-string guitar is r...

Re: ‘67 modded 330 (335) vs new 330, need help and insight
Even if it’s a double truss rod, it’s still different than the modern ones? Yes. You don't just turn the nuts like you do on most other manufacturers' truss rods, and even the newer Rickenbacker truss rods. There are many places on this forum and otherwise you can get all the details. But to summar...

Re: Cobalt strings
A friend really likes these for bass and gave me some 10’s for guitar. I’ve tried them on my 350 a couple times and to my ears they played & sounded like regular EB’s. Likewise. I had a leftover 50 round wound cobalt bass string, so I trimmed it to try on a guitar. I heard no difference on the ...

Re: Which pre-amp/DI stomp box do you use with your Ric bass?
I use a simple Behringer passive $25 DI: clean, transparent, and allows my sound man to adjust the mix as necessary.

Re: ‘67 modded 330 (335) vs new 330, need help and insight
Well I bought the ‘67, and it is on the way (Tuesday, fingers crossed). I appreciate all that insight! He offered it at $2k shipped. Given the vibrato and pickups I would have wanted, cheaper than a new one. I worked in a used shop for several years, and it’ll get a good once over and go in to some...

Re: ‘67 modded 330 (335) vs new 330, need help and insight
As with any used instruments, if you can, unless you have significant experience in looking at used instruments, have an independent knowledgable luthier check out items such as integrity of all the glue joints, neck alignment, truss rods, fret wear, etc., especially since a significant amount of wo...

Re: Doing a "Fogerty mod" on a 325?
The finish really has nothing to do with ability to bend notes. I can bend notes on my 12-string with its original finished fret board. If the fret board has too many divots and wear, yes, I can see skimming it before refretting to assure playability. I actually wore the fret board of my 4002 so bad...

And no assurance it wouldn't soak humidity, warp, and maple rot start devouring it.lumgimfong wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 12:18 am Congrats on such a nice bass!!
I think unfinished necks would be cool. No finish bubbling near the frets!!

With the above posts, now you understand why I said I leave it to others to confirm the other nuts are bakelite.

They look the same to me. I'll let you contact the factory to confirm.

Re: Ric 4002 pickup problems
I had the same thing happen to my 4002 years ago - to the point I contacted the factory and got what I believe was the last uninstalled bridge pickup. When I took the plate off and went to install the replacement pickup, I saw a loose wire to a pot. I simply resoldered the wire, re-flowed a couple o...

Re: Cobalt strings
Yes, in the right alloy, cobalt has great magnetic properties. Cobalt's chemical element abbreviation, Co, is part of the name of the slugs in Toasters (as well as in other famous manufacturer's pickups): AlNiCo. The price you pay for that increased magnetic interaction is that cobalt is harder than...
