Re: Hammer Jammer
As with other items designed for conventional guitar bridge spacing, I am concerned that you can't narrow the hammers down enough, along with the hammers not being able to cleanly intonate both strings of a pair without extensive modifications for the different diameters between the unison and octav...

Re: Strings/Setup on a 330/6 - Mitch Easter content!
Have your luthier check the nut. My 320 fretted sharp until my luthier carefully adjusted the nut slots so the open position chords did not pull sharp. I also echo that 11's are better, especially the D'Addario 115W set with the wound 3rd G string. They are balanced in feel and tone, which helps kee...

The original gauges for a whammy Strat were the Fender 150 "Rock 'N Roll" set 10 13 15 26w 32w 38w.kennyhowes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 7:48 am .039 for a low E string. I guess don’t knock it until you try it, but that seems awfully light.

Hmmm. The gauges shown for the compressed rounds sets 444 and 555 look suspiciously like GHS Pressurewound. Hmmm. L7200 SETS - PRESSUREWOUND™ - Light (37.25" winding) 040-096 PWB40 PWB54 PWB76 PWB96 ML7200 SETS - PRESSUREWOUND™ - Medium Light (37.25" winding) 044-102 PWB44 PWB58 PWB80 PWB102

Thanks for the post!!! I thankfully stand corrected about my prior post speculating about stock sheets as not having gauges, since these sheets show they do!

Re: What's The Attraction To Flatwounds On The 12 Strings?
I don't know what the attraction to flats on a 12-string is, either. I use custom gauges D'Addario XL rounds: 9-9; 11 1/2-11 1/2; 18w-8; 24w-10 1/2; 32w-14; 42w-22w. (Yes, D'A does make the half-gauge singles.) These gauges intonate perfectly on a traditional six-saddle bridge, with one exception: t...

Re: String Poll for Rickenbacker Bass Players
Damn COVID-19. On my 1981 4002, which I purchased in the early 1990's, I tried several string brands/models/gauges. At that time GHS Progressives were the new kid on the block. I tried them. I liked them. They brought out what those 4002 pickups had to offer. I could get custom singles. So for over ...

Re: Weirdest punk/alternative band?
Going with weird, I watched this band on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in the mid-70's when I was a teenager: Sparks. I would wait until everyone was asleep, get up in the middle of the night, turn the TV on with really low volume so as not to wake anybody, get my ear right next to the speaker, and ro...

Re: 1958 Combo 850 tribute.
If that's your preference, so be it! Make it so! I wore Picard's uniform & had my red 350 at my last band’s final show. Unfortunately our gear malfunctioned due to repeated tachyon field emanations. Facepalm. On hiatus...forced break from working on stuff. Chomping at the bit...gonna ...

Re: Setting Hi Gain pickup heights
It's not about the volume knob. The signal induced by the strings to the pickup varies as the square of the distance from the strings, not linearly. So you must find the sweet spot of tone and output. Any suggested measurement is only a starting point. Why is that important? If the pickup is too far...

Re: 4003 pot upgrade
In addition to the math, which you can find equations that do, and equations that do not have the resistance in the formula, I can tell you from 48 years of playing guitars and wiring and rewiring hundreds of instruments, that there is a higher resonant peak, which our ears hear as brighter, from us...

RicUpNorth - enjoy the 12's on your guitar. I'm sure they will be just fine.

Re: 4003 pot upgrade
Of course you could be right, but I don't think so. As I understand it, the resonance frequency is determined by the inductance and capacitance of the circuit. The pickups are inductors, of course, but they also have some internal capacitance. The wiring of the instrument adds some, but I think tha...

Re: 4003 pot upgrade
What Isaac said ^ . Also, I would stay in response to lumgimfong to stay with the .047 tone capacitors as in the factory schematics and not change to the .022 tone capacitors typically used in guitars. When a tone control is dimed, there is no tonal difference, as the caps are effectively out of the...
