New Guitar Day - 420

Post by Len »

Found this 420 on Craigslist and picked it up today. It's very light, has really low action, and with new strings sounds great. The bridge is really low and the screws stick out a bit far, but otherwise a great player. I think I got a really good deal. Is it a 420 or a 425?

Len: With no vibrato it is technically a 420, I believe. George Harrison's model was referred to as a 425 for some time but it too was a 420.

looks like the 420's in the register have toasters, but then again the serial number decoder says this one is from May,1980 and all the ones in the RR are prior to that.

The 420s continued to be made until the early 1980s, perhaps 1983 or so. High gains were installed in this model in the 1980s. I do, however, tend to prefer the look of the toaster. Once again the Register does not tell us the whole story.
