Post by ross »

hello all,

i've a 1974 4001 left handed rickenbacker bass. the truss rods need replacing but i'm having great difficulty as rickenbacker are only making truss rods for models made after '85.

can anybody point me in the direction of where i could find these?

You might have to find a skilled luthier who could make a set for you.

How do you know they need replacing? Unless they are missing or broken way down inside the neck they are probably quite fixable. Tell us what you have and we will help you out.

I have a little work to do before I can make some rod sets as replacements. As I said above, unless they are lost or broken there is rarely a reason to replace them.

Dale, just for future reference, could you shoot me the price for those items too? Do you make them yourself or are they original parts?

Cheers lads!

Ted - I left my Ricky into a guitar shop & he said I needed them to be replaced. I know little or nothing about guitars - just how to play them badly! I bought this guitar of ebay a while back, (at a knock down price! - & for a reason...obviously) never really dug the sound I was getting from it. I tried replacing the pick ups etc, then went ahead and left it into a guitar shop for someone to take a decent look at it....and they tell me the truss rods need replacing.

Dale Bruce Fortune: I never received that email but I've just emailed you now.

Dane: Yeah I saw those rods on ebay but I missed the sell by date - i was in bed.....europe+usa=time difference
