Rick with a Mesa Boogie

Post by 8mileshigher »

Speaking of looking on Craig's List ...
Los Angeles (LAX airport area) just posted this Subway Blues model today, looks to be a newer model, in pristine condition for $550

And here's another new CL posting from Alhambra area, for $630, a Rectoverb 50 watter with invoice for new tubes from Mesa:

Years ago a salesman showed me a Mesa Studio .22. Am still kicking myself for not buying it as it sounded fantastic. At any rate, I have a Mesa Rocket 44 1x12 I play with my Ric 330 all the time and it's very versitile; clean, distorted, contour channels. Love Mesas.

I used to have this that I used with my old 660/12. I still have access to it, a friend owns it, now.

The DC-2 can be difficult to find I looked for a few years and never came across one. A good place to look for used Boggies is the Boogie Board caslified section.

I used a Maverick 2x12 combo for several years. Excellent (albeit very heavy) amplifier. Identical to this:

The DC-2 was (is) a great amp, but I got an early '70s Princeton Reverb Amp (PRA) while I had the DC-2 and decided I didn't need two guitar amps (being a bassist, primarily). The PRA had been modded with a Celestion G12M-70, probably sometime in the '70s, and sounded great too, and I liked the simplicity of it more than the channel switching capabilities of the DC-2, plus the DC-2 does not have tremolo, of which the PRA's tremolo sounds wonderful with it's modulated bias design. I did eventually sell the PRA after acquiring the 1962 Concert Amp I have; I sold the PRA to the same friend who has the DC-2! He has bought a few other things from me over the years. 8) If someone is interested in the DC-2 I can see if he would part with it.
