Get Back

Post by fireglo »

I just watched Get Back and loved it! I noticed that Paul has his Rickenbacker, and it still has the magical mystery tour paint. Paul talks about having the nut fixed. Then when it shows up again in the end credits, it has the paint removed and the nut is white. I assume that's when the zero fret is added. Just thought that was cool! Has anybody else watched it yet?

I'm halfway through episode 2, with the Rick still to be seen. A great show.

I watched the first part. Very cool listening to how the classic songs took shape.

Zero fret might have been later, I can’t recall.

There is a facebook group "Gear of the Beatles" and someone jus tposted this:
Timeline of Paul’s Ric during the Get Back sessions. (All speculation from what I’ve watched)
Jan 25th - Paul takes the Ric home with him (still in its “ psychedelic” form)
Jan 28th - the case of the Ric was seen behind Billy Preston.
Jan 30th - case was seen on the rooftop
Jan 31st - seen in the background of the “two of us” video (sanded and nut replaced)
My guess was on Monday the 27th Paul took the bass to get sanded at the furniture shop. The bass was absent on Sunday the 26th and wasn’t seen (the case at least) until Tuesday the 28th. Then again I didn’t see the case on the 29th. Please share anymore knowledge or point out if I missed anything.

I thought it was interesting when the control room asked him to switch basses and he brought up the Rickenbacker, then as George Martin was kneeling down to help adjust the tone on the bass, Paul admitted he didn't know what those knobs really did.

It's amazing how much people smoked back in the last century.

It reminded me of when I started work after leaving school. Not only did almost everybody smoke, you could also smoke at your desks. In fact management supplied ash trays to every desk, better to provide them than to deal with the ensuing mess across all the paperwork. Just about the only place you couldn't smoke was on a public counter.

I just started episode 3. Has anyone noticed the Fender Jazz bass lying around? I've seen it in about 4 different frames, its always leaning against an amp or lying on the floor. I've only seen the neck, its got a rosewood fingerboard with binding and block inlays.

Scott, I wonder if that might not be the 6 sting bass John and George messed around with.

You've all got me chartreuse with envy. I'd love to be watching this, but I don't have access to the Disney channel ...or any streaming services. It's freeview only in our house. :(

No way Tom. 4 tuning pegs. You never see the entire bass, just the neck.

Here's a thread over at talkbass.

In the first post / pic, look to Pauls left, leaning against the amp.

I thought the JB's were common knowledge?
There are pictures of a dot board / binding lefty (Probably a '66) that Paul is playing during the White album sessions and a '68'ish right handed that George has been shown as playing during Abbey Road times.
