Great to have these links in one place. Anyone come to a final decision on the sandcast bridges? They really look sandcast, I can see some pitting on the top of the one in the pics.

I'm not sure if it can be done, but can this thread be (not sure of the term to use) locked or FIXED in place so it doesn't get lost, kind of like pasted at the top of the bass thread? You know what I'm getting at.....how about even a FAQ fixed category where all good stuff like this can be stored?

I had made it Sticky so it is "Fixed" in place at the top of the Bass Forum. The only way way it would sink and get lost, is to remove the Sticky function. I'd only remove the Sticky, is if Peter decided to move it to a FAQ section.

I'm sorry if I missed it but has there been any discussion about the surrounds?
Curious, I have a 72 4000 with a surround that does not have the depression to allow
the strings to lower. Other surrounds from that period I've seen have the depression.

Can anyone give a time line on the style of surrounds?

Robert, '72 - '75 were transition years for the 4001. They used whichever parts were available in stock when they were building them.

Interesting Joey.. Going through the images in the register it seems like pre 72 you have the grinded surround
72 - 75 the transition years, you have both grinded and un-grinded then from 76 to 85 or so it was the un-grinded
then 85 and on back to the grinded again.

I've seen different caps on various photos of the wiring harness . It might be nice to see which ones were used at different times .

Roughly, blue in the 60s, yellow in the 70s and some 80s I believe, and orange in the 90s and 00s. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
