4001/4003 pickup cover question

Post by steversaurus »

Picked up a pickup cover on the cheap as a backup in case I lost my original. After comparing with my mid 70s 4001, I realize that they are quite different. One seems a little taller and thicker. When/How many times did they change the them?

As far as the plastic covers go the one change was in about 75 where they went from the low profile cover to the modern cover.

I like the low profile one...

Thanks. I didn't know they changed it up that early. I always thought it was during the switch to the 4003

The shorter profile cover is not designed to move up and down with the pickup while the taller version is, so they install differently (but should be interchangeable as long as they are installed correctly but differently - basically the order in which you mount the cover, bushings and springs to the base plate). Here's a thread here that I started a few months ago that discusses all of the details:

Can we have everything louder than everything else?
