short vs. tall treble pickup covers

I recently purchased what i believe is a short treble pickup cover for my 1972 4001. I am going to post some pictures, but I would like those in the know to post what knowledge they have regarding the two different pickup cover sizes (years used, models used, is there another size cover known, etc). The short cover is shown with a cover from my 1982 4001 (I don't remember if this cover is stock or if I purchased it from the Ric boutique a few years ago). The width and length are similar. Of note is the mounting plate- flush with the cover bottom on the short, extended down a bit from the bottom of the tall cover (use for ID'ing from a picture) and the clearance difference between the two. I believe the short is mounted on top of the spring, whereas the tall is mounted below the spring.

I could be wrong but, I believe the taller goes with the earlier Pups with the aluminum base plate. The shorter goes with either the aluminum plate and plastic spacers or plastic base plates with raised receivers for the adjustment screws.

Yep, my 72 has the lower as does my 75 and my 79 has the taller, seem to recall extra lugs on the 79 pup base to mount it close to the base.
