I would go for a nice veeeeeerrryyyyy light transluscent brown or a peachy tan so you can see all the lovely wood grain. Clearcoat optional.

I am with you on this one, Michael. The exception would be that instruments are sometimes finished in Jetglo because their grain may not be the best for a natural finish.

There's refins and then there's refins. if your considering the caliber of someone like Larry Davis or Paul Wilczinski, go for it. Top notch work.

Its your bass, and it looks really good on you as well.

FWIW, my 1982 4080 JG (with 'standard' white trim) weighs 15.15 lbs.

Yep. Same here. 15 lbs on a bathroom scale.

I sent the bass to Larry Davis (https://www.davisguitarworks.com/ for some TLC. It took a while to get on his calendar but once started he was a pleasure to work with. He re-fretted both necks, replaced the binding, replaced the Grover wavy tuners, and refinished it. It looks fantastic and I am extremely happy with the results.

But I see you did, and he did a great job, looks like new.
