There were other carvers before Richard Seccombe (pictured), but he apparently did the most and was last to do them.

It certainly seems insane to me (relative to what other collectible/vintage Rickenbacker basses sell for).

But I do understand the high market for these, even if I feel that $22K seems uncharacteristically high for one.

They check a lot of boxes - hand carved, limited edition, artist signature, and out of production for a long time now. I've seen less significant instruments eclipse these in price, easily (Jimmy Page LP or Van Halen Frankenstein replicas, anyone?)
