Testing out strings is fun!

I became a flatwound guy a long time ago, but had nothing buy my Mustang for basses for the past 7-ish years. I just put an old set of Thomastik flats on my recently acquired 4003S and it felt fantastic, like getting back on a bicycle! I think they are 43-100, or something close to that. Not cheap, but I used this set forever, and it still feels like new.

I always end up going back to Rotos. I like both the sound and feel best. Strangely, I don’t really like smooth-feeling strings and, partly because I play so lightly, I like an aggressive-sounding string.

They’re really low tension, lower than the TI flats, they sound great and they’re really cheap.

Those look interesting. Hadn't noticed them, but I haven't been looking for strings in a long while.

Thing is, other people playing Rotos, heroes of mine, etc., sound awesome, but me, not so much! Actually, rounds in general. Thomastik makes double bass strings and their approach to electric bass strings translates really well onto Rickenbacker fretless basses. That said, it's Pirastro Evahs over TIs on a string bass any day!

I've usually played D'Addario nickel XLs. I definitely found the steel version too midscooped and cold sounding.

Recently I ordered a couple sets of Black Harbor strings, but I haven't tried them out yet.

I like DR Highbeams, I just picked up a couple of sets for my 4001s, and my Thunderbird.

I use the .40 .65 .80 .100 set.
