New (old) 325V59 In The House

Post by '70RS »

Greetings all,
A little Christmas story 12 1/2 years in the making for you.

A week after our first boy was born we bought him a 325V59, took a picture of it in his crib with him and hid it away:

Well, lucky for us, he's grown up to play guitar, bass and a bit of drums (what were we thinking?). He's had a few guitars over the years that have either been passed along from relatives, cheap copies that he's saved up for and one that he won in a songwriting contest. A few months ago he decided he was going to save up and finally get himself a nice electric. He had his mind set on a '69 Tele Thinline RI, but then started thinking about Gretsches and Rickenbackers. One day he pulled out some of my Ric books and told me a 325 was the way to go. Seriously, no prompting for me at all....promise. That was the new plan. Then he saw how much 325's were going for and realized the MIM Thinline was his best choice.

So, Christmas morning he opens up a framed picture of his 325V59 in his crib with him and thinks "Great, a picture of me with one of my dad's old guitars." Then out came the little silver case that had been locked away, unplayed, for 12 1/2 years. He seems to like it:

Thanks.
He's been walking around in a bit of a daze since. That night on his way to bed he asked "Where should I put the Ricky?"....then he stopped and giggles a bit and "I have a Ricky."

He keeps finding out more and more people have known about this (including another copy of that picture up on the wall at Real Guitars all these years that he has never noticed). He's learning that we are waaaaaay better at keepings secrets than he is.

His warranty expired 7 years ago......D'oh!!!!

The coolest part was when he said "Daddy, any time you have a rehearsal, or gig, you can use my guitar if you want."
He's a damn good kid.

Thanks everyone.
Well, it's been a couple weeks now and the perfect Jetglo finish is starting to cloud up from extended use. Don't tell the "You can't play that on a Rickenbacker" guys from some other forums.....but he's not only learning Beatles licks, he's started to master The Ventures and attempt a bunch of Steve Stevens' work with Billy Idol as well....all running thru a Vox Valvetronix. Guess what? You can play that on a Ric.

Oh yeah, props should go to my wife as well.
