370/12RM innards?

Post by JakeK »

I've always been wondering about what the McGuinn models looked like from under the guard. More importantly, I want to see what the compressor looks like and where you'd install the battery. Does anyone have a pic of the electronics of a McGuinn model from under the guard?

Kevin, how'd you get one of those? Did you rob a 370/12RM? Just curious.

Kenny, I would never do that. One of the members here had a couple of these circuits for sale a few years ago. I bought this one and I believe he sold a LH version on eBay.

Dan, thanks and I agree about the 1993 Fireglo finishes. Some of the best I have seen.

Jerry, no it's not. BTW, this was the first Rick 12 string I ever owned. It was a gift from my wife for painting her Mom's house in 1996. It was a 360/12 WB VP and I added the third Toaster, 12 saddle bridge, and RM compressor circuit later. The wood grain on the body is kinda plain but the neck has some nice flame showing.

Very cool conversion! I know that the Jangle-Box is very popular as a substitute for a McGuinn style compression unit, but I'm wondering if there are any on-board kits available that can be retrofitted onto Rickenbackers aside from the Vox Treble Booster unit pickguard assembly.
Is there any DIY circuitry or kit available? I would prefer an on-board unit like the original RM LE E-1 versus a stomp-box. I saw one of the original RM E-1 units on Ebay years ago, and it was priced well over a grand, overly expensive.

Thanks, I have an extra "Tone Werks" pickguard assembly with the built-in Treble Booster but have never tried it. I was going to install it in a Fireglo 370/12 SPC but decided to keep the guitar original.

GFS pickups website has a little compressor board that would fit in to a Rick cavity for under 50 bucks. Haven't heard it and don't really know anymore then that, might be worth checking out.

Kevin, thanks for the pictures. They are too cool, and very different from what I imagined it to look like under there!
