Roy, I’ve heard mention of Ricky Tomlinson expressing similar sentiments about Cilla Black - something along the lines of “I’m more of a Scouser than she ever was and I was born in Blackpool”.

Re: Loved of the Loved

I understand that John Lennon was originally keen for Beryl Marsden to record the song but Epstein overruled him in favour of Cilla.

I think I have read that somewhere too, a lot of Liverpool people from that period do feel that Marsden was far better than Cilla

While she was huge locally, Beryl Marsden was seemingly always bumping heads with the likes of Helen Shaprio and Susan Maughan when it came to releasing singles under her own name. After a few false starts, for a short while in late 1966 it looked like she was finally making headway when she paired up with Rod Stewart to front Shotgun Express – but that venture went quickly pear-shaped after only a few months and one record…….

I Could Feel The Whole World Turn Round

Unlike her contemporary, Cilla Black, whenever she can find an audience, Beryl Marsden is still very much performing to this day…….

Thanks for those Peter, Baby It's You and another track called Too Late were released last year, not bad for a 60 year old.
