Nina Hagen Anyone?

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

Hey! What an awesome new board! Go Sheena, Go Sheena, Go Sheena...! :D

Well, wondering if anyone else has a thing for Nina Hagen, the very weird, but quite astounding East German chanteuse, the Mother of Punk...or of NunSexMonkRock...

Maybe you had to be there...but she is a force of nature.

Go where?
Ah-ha, good one! I cannot say i'm a big fan of Nina Hagen (maybe partly because every time i hear her sing, i get envious cause i cannot sing like that  ), but she definitely has a unique voice and style, a special one. I really love her version of "Fever" — never get tired of listening to it, perhaps the best version of the song in my books!

Nina is a little out there, but NunSexMonkRock got regular playing time back in high school.

Big fan of hers back in the eighties. Lucky enough to have seen her at a dance club in NYC - that was superb!

But my best memory comes courtesy of Bill Spooner of the Tubes. Back around 1994 I took some song writing lessons from him. I asked him what he thought of Nina's version of "White Punks on Dope" (what she called TV Glotzer?). That drew a big smile. He told a story about meeting her at a studio in Holland. As I remember it, he told me that all the Tubes really liked her but found her boyfriend to be frightfully dull. Also told me that her voice kept blowing out the tweeters in the studio monitors. Of course, he loved her version of the song.
Currently: Tuxedo, 1972 4000

Past holdings: 1968 4005, Blackstar, 3000, CS, Alembric, Tuxedo, 360-12, Blackstar, 360-12, 1982 4003, Shadow, 4003 SnowGlow, CS in that order.

Remember the film she was in, Cha Cha? Herman Brood and Lene Lovich were also in it; actually, Brood was the "star" of the flick.

I also love her song "Paul"...(Paul! Paul! Let me be your baby doll!)...and she was probably referring to Paul Shaffer, bandleader for David Letterman. He was playing synth in her band and on at least two albums in the early 80s.

I like Nina Hagen.

I actually stood next to her at a gig once, and didn't quite realize it was her until after a minute. I tried to keep my eyes on the stage. She had a great pair of legs at the time, and wasn't wearing much. She had fishnet stockings on and some stiletto heels, lots of eye liner

That album is a real masterpiece. "NunSexMonkRock" and "Angstlos" also great but after that...not my cup of tea. The recent hare krishna stuff is just as horrible as all hare krishna stuff. I wish I'd have a website like hers http://www.beepworld.de/members77/ninahagendas/

Nina is iconic ! I remember - a pretty long time ago she was in an austrian TV talkshow - rather conservative people sitting around, she was wearing super tight leather pants - when she suddenly started to show what girls do when they want to have fun with themselves - and that was broadcasted live  riot over germany ! Next day all the newspaperwere screaming SCANDAL !!

That was just great ! She doesn't care for anything
Her daughter, Cosma Sheeva, is quite a successful actress as well.
