Thank you Neil and Buddy

Post by elreydlp »

When I was ready for my first "pro" guitar, I asked my parents to loan me the money with agreement I would pay it back with interest. The guitar I really wanted was my music teachers display ('62) Stratocaster which he was selling and replacing with an "updated" '63. My Mom was reluctant until I showed it to her and played a couple of songs when she drove me to my lesson. She said, "Why that looks and sounds just like the one those handsome young men on Lawrence Welk play". Then, she wrote out a check to Mr. Sabback, and I took it home!

$190.00 including the brown, Tolex case!

Good story.

Those Strats look kind of suspicious to me. The guy in the foreground is playing one that looks like it has a 3-ply guard with a maple neck, which is not a match. The guy in the back looks like he's playing a sunburst Strat the front of which has been covered over with some white contact paper.

Maybe that's the old "TV Yellow" concept -- lighten up those instruments (fronts of necks and bodies) so they'll show up better on the black and white TV?!

Anway, it sounds like you got the '62 with the slab board, so you win!
