Bob Demmon-RIP

Post by elreydlp »

The man responsible for the dripping, muted rhythm guitar on "The Astronauts" hit "Baja". For "men of a certain age", the pictures of the group with their matching blonde Showmans and Reverb units and Oly White Jags, Jazzmasters, and Jazz Bass defined "cool". Bob lived not far away-Coronado, CA. I never met him, but those I know who did said he was humble about his place in Surf Music history, but appreciated the recognition.

Also this remembrance and tribute from our bass player John "J-cat" Griffith:

Hi All, on 12-18-2010, guitarist and founding member of the surf band The Astronauts, Bob Demmon passed away. Bob lived in Coronado, CA and I'd see him now and then when he'd show up when I played with the band North Star for afternoon shows on the patio of McP's Pub & Grill. He was a great guy to hang with and always ready to discuss guitars and music. To view my tribute to his memory, just click the link below and I hope to see you all next year in 2011. Best always, JTG
