What type of Rickenbacker is this?!

i was listening to an archived interview/performance of a Swedish band, "The
Cardigans" on the radio station KCRW. i believe it was from 1996.
what caught my attention, was when the interviewer asked the guitarist what type of "huge orange" guitar he was playing. he responded saying it was a Rickenbacker he had bought that day in LA, and figured it might have been a prototype.
i found it on this video, (around the 50th second). any ideas?

Weird. I love Rics, I love the Cardigans, but I have no idea here. Looks like some kind of hybrid.

it's strange - isn't it? the headstock is constructed like a typical ric (dark center, light, dark wings) and the sound hole looks like that of a 360 or the like...hmmm...
here's a link to the performance/interview Jason:

It's been discussed here in the past. Interesting guitar, but definitely not a Rickenbacker (despite the truss rod cover).

It reminds me a little of the
Grimshaw that Pete Townshend used for a while.

In the sleeve notes of their debut album, I recall him listing equipment used in the recording process. He definitely stated the use of an F-series. I wonder if he actually had one or only thought he did...

Only if "F" stands for "pillow"...or maybe "marshmallow"...

i actually feel quite bad for him, as during the interview/performance the day after he bought it (i posted the kcrw link earlier), he's extremely excited about his new 'Rickenbacker'.
