Collective Soul - Ed Roland's Ric Guitar

Post by dean712 »

I apologize if this has been posted here before. Here's a scan from the liner notes of Collective Soul's first CD, "Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid."

That's Ed Roland, their lead singer/songwriter. He is one of my favorites. Thought I'd share the photo with fellow Ric fans....

It is a great CD, check it out if you haven't already.

I love that album, it is very jangly! Nice songwriting too IMHO.

Gene, I totally agree on the songwriting. I'm a bass player, but Ed Roland is a big influence on me as a songwriter. All of the Collective Soul albums have great songs, great arrangements - I just really like them. Of course, it's all subject to personal opinion, but Collective Soul is one of my favorites for recent rock music.

Dean,
I bought that album in about 1995, and another one by them that is blue, and has several songs that got a lot of radio airtime. But since 2000 or so, I kinda forgot all about Collective Soul. I need to go back and listen to them, since I now own Rick guitars. In addition, I have been finding my songwriting getting a little bit stale, a little in need of some new inspiration. This may be just what I need, thanks for the suggestion and can you recommend some more recent Collective Soul albums that I might like as much as the two I mentioned above?

Gene - I would highly recommend "Disciplined Breakdown" (1997) and "Blender" (2000). Very good stuff!
